We're back partnering with our long-time crew at Active l Business Fitness - and this is one of the most interesting technical roles we've worked on this year.
They're hiring their first dedicated Data Platform Engineer to build the foundations that will shape how data is used across the entire business.
Not just today.
But for everything they're planning over the next few years.
So... what's the story?
Business Fitness builds Active Platform - a mature SaaS product used by accounting firms across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
The platform is already processing millions of interactions.
Behind the scenes they're collecting data from:
Now they're investing in something bigger.
Not just storing that data...
But building the platform that connects it, structures it and makes it genuinely useful for reporting, customer insights and AI.
That's where this role comes in.
What you'll actually be doing
This role sits within the Platform Engineering team, working alongside DevOps, Security, Product and Data.
You'll be responsible for building the foundations that enable everything that comes next.
You'll be:
Initially, the role has a strong platform and cloud engineering focus as you help strengthen the underlying foundations.
Over time, it naturally evolves into a broader data platform position where you'll play a key role in Business Fitness's long-term data and AI strategy.
What they're looking for
Forget the unicorn checklist.
They're looking for someone who's comfortable sitting between cloud engineering and data.
You'll probably be a great fit if you have:
You might currently be:
If you've spent your career working in highly segmented enterprise environments where every problem belongs to another team...
This probably isn't the role for you.
Why it's interesting
Most data roles sit at one end of the spectrum.
They're either:
This isn't.
You'll work across cloud, platform and data while helping build something that simply doesn't exist yet.
You'll have the backing of experienced DevOps engineers, Product teams and AI specialists - but you'll genuinely own your work.
It's the kind of role where you'll be able to look back in two years' time and point to a platform you helped build.
The environment
The bottom line
If you enjoy solving difficult technical problems...
If you like building things properly rather than patching them...
If you want to work across cloud, platform and data while helping lay the foundations for AI...
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity.
