Data Solution Architect - Snowflake on AWS

Location: Anywhere in Australia (Flexible / Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a senior Data Solution Architect to lead a major enterprise data modernization program, migrating complex on-premises data workloads to a secure, scalable Snowflake on AWS environment within a highly regulated financial services context.

You will define and govern the target-state data architecture, establish enterprise modelling standards, guide pipeline migration, and ensure all data services are resilient, secure, cost-optimized, and production-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Target Architecture & Strategy: Assess existing on-premises data landscapes and design end-to-end target architectures on Snowflake and AWS across landing, curated, and consumption layers.

• Pipeline & Modernization Design: Define batch, incremental, and near-real-time ingestion/transformation patterns (Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks) and guide the migration of legacy workloads.

• Governance & Security: Collaborate with security teams to enforce RBAC, IAM, data masking, encryption, data lineage, quality, and regulatory compliance standards across the data lifecycle.

• FinOps & Performance: Implement Snowflake architectural best practices for warehouse sizing, workload isolation, auto-suspend/resume, query optimization, and cost governance.

• Operational Readiness: Define monitoring, observability, runbook, and service management standards to ensure a seamless handover to managed operations teams.

• Stakeholder Leadership: Produce detailed technical design documents (ADRs, data flows) and provide architectural direction across business, engineering, and platform teams.

Skills & Experience Required

• Snowflake & AWS Expertise: Proven hands-on data architecture experience with Snowflake (warehousing, objects, Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks) alongside core AWS data integration services.

• Data Engineering & Modelling: Deep knowledge of Data Vault/Dimensional modelling, enterprise data lakes/lakehouses, ELT/ETL architectures, and semantic consumption layers.

• Cloud Migration Experience: Proven track record architecting enterprise-scale migrations from legacy on-premises data systems to modern cloud platforms.

• Regulated Environment Background: Prior experience designing data solutions within banking, financial services, or similarly strict enterprise security frameworks.

• Operational & FinOps Mastery: Solid understanding of cloud cost optimization, DataOps, CI/CD, and production supportability models.

Desirable Skills & Certifications

• Snowflake Architectural Certification or AWS Certified Data Engineer / Solutions Architect.

• Familiarity with enterprise frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), Power BI/analytics layers, and enterprise data catalog toolsets.
