The Team You’ll Join
The Database Administration team at Envestnet is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and operational readiness of the production databases that power our Wealth platforms. As a Junior DBA (Jr DBA), you’ll join a collaborative, cross-functional group that monitors database health, responds to incidents, supports releases and upgrades, and enforces secure, compliant operations across a large MS SQL Server estate. You’ll work alongside senior engineers who will guide your growth as you build foundational knowledge of our database platforms, monitoring practices, and operational support processes—while contributing directly to the day-to-day stability of the environments our advisors rely on.
How You’ll Contribute
As a Database Administrator I at the P1 (Professional I) level, you’ll build foundational knowledge of database platforms, data structures, operational support processes, and monitoring concepts for assigned Wealth platform environments. With guidance from senior team members, you will:
- Monitor the health of MS SQL Server instances across multiple production and non-production environments—including alerts, jobs, replication status, and basic performance indicators—to identify issues or early signs of degradation.
- Perform routine database support tasks using established procedures, including health checks, validation steps, backup verification, and standard operational activities.
- Manage backup jobs and restore data upon request, helping ensure RPO/RTO goals are met.
- Assist with initial incident triage by gathering logs, error details, query context, and system information for senior team members, and participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Support controlled deployment activities by executing approved low-risk database changes and completing post-change validation steps.
- Follow defined security, access, and compliance procedures in day-to-day database operations, help maintain and audit security on the SQL instances, and handle production data according to policy.
- Maintain and develop automation of routine tasks, and submit ideas or suggestions on process improvements.
- Maintain operational documentation by creating and updating runbooks, support notes, and known-issue records to improve repeatability and knowledge sharing.
- Take part in scheduled maintenance windows and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Learn and comply with the company’s database standards and policies, and assist with special projects as assigned.
What You’ll Need To Bring
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant experience with SQL Server (2022+).
- A good working knowledge of T-SQL.
- Working familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Experience with Windows Operating Systems (Server 2016+).
- Basic knowledge of PowerShell.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively with a team to complete tasks efficiently.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Jira (or a similar issue-tracking / project management tool).
- Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS.
