Cadence is the clinical AI company automating the treatment of chronic disease. Its Clinical Intelligence takes on the routine, high-volume work of chronic care – monitoring patients, surfacing risks, and coordinating action – so clinicians can focus on the decisions that require them. Grounded in partnerships with more than 20 leading health systems, deep EMR integrations, dedicated medical group, and experience serving a population of more than 100,000 patients, the system learns from real-world care delivery, improving as it scales. Cadence has been recognized by TIME as one of the Top 100 HealthTech Companies and by LinkedIn as a Top Startup (#4, 2025). The Role Cadence is hiring a Deputy General Counsel to help lead and scale our legal function as we continue building the infrastructure for continuous, proactive care for people living with chronic conditions. Reporting to the General Counsel, this leader will oversee key areas of Cadence’s legal work, including commercial contracting, healthcare regulatory, labor and employment, insurance, intellectual property, and other strategic legal priorities. The Deputy General Counsel will manage a team of attorneys, partner closely with leaders across the business, and help ensure the legal team provides timely, practical, business-minded advice while maintaining strong risk discipline. This is a senior leadership role for an attorney who can operate strategically and operationally: managing people, running legal processes, advising executives, overseeing risk decisions, and keeping the legal team focused, responsive, and accountable. What You’ll Do Lead core areas of Cadence’s legal function, including commercial contracting, healthcare regulatory, labor and employment, insurance, intellectual property, and related strategic matters. Manage, coach, and develop a team of attorneys, including setting priorities, giving feedback, evaluating performance, and contributing to compensation review processes. Run and prepare for legal team meetings, ensuring clear agendas, decision-making, project ownership, and follow-through. Track all legal team projects, deadlines, risks, dependencies, and owners to ensure the team is operating with clarity and accountability. Oversee commercial contracting workflows, with a focus on improving time to completion, stakeholder experience, and consistency of legal positions. Manage outside counsel relationships, including scoping work, reviewing performance, monitoring budgets, and ensuring spend remains aligned with business priorities. Partner with the General Counsel on strategic risk decisions, including when to escalate, when to accept risk, and how to communicate tradeoffs to senior leaders. Partner effectively with the Chief Compliance Officer, ensuring clear coordination across legal, compliance, risk, and governance matters. What You Need JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 10+ years of legal experience, including in-house leadership experience in a high-growth, regulated, healthcare, technology, or care delivery environment. Strong experience across commercial contracting, healthcare regulatory matters, and legal operations. Working knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, Civil Monetary Penalties Law, and clinical licensure and scope-of-practice requirements. Experience with HIPAA and privacy law is a plus. Experience contracting with payers is a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage and develop attorneys, including prioritization, feedback, performance management, and team planning. Excellent judgment on legal and business risk, with the ability to distinguish between theoretical risk and practical risk. Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets. Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where legal must be rigorous, responsive, and commercially practical. Fluency with AI research and productivity tools and the ability to evaluate AI-driven insights critically, distinguishing signal from noise in a fast-moving information environment.
