Job Description – DevOps Intern (CI/CD, Automation & Platform Engineering) Role Overview: We are seeking a driven and curious DevOps Intern to support our CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure initiatives. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to understand how systems work end-to-end—from code to deployment environments. The intern will gain hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, cloud and onprem environments, and DevOps performance metrics (DORA). This role requires a proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and the ability to contribute in a fast-paced engineering environment. Key Responsibilities: • Support CI/CD, automation, and tooling for AI-assisted software development and modern engineering workflows. • Identify repetitive manual tasks and develop simple automation solutions using shell or Python scripting. • Monitor system health, CI/CD pipelines, logs, and deployment outcomes to identify and troubleshoot issues. • Contribute to release processes including versioning, tagging, artifact generation, and coordination • Communicate progress, issues, and deployment status effectively with engineering teams and other stakeholders. • Assist in rollback handling and basic troubleshooting during releases • Track and report DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, MTTR) • Help identify opportunities to improve deployment efficiency, reliability, and developer productivity • Assist in implementing DevSecOps practices including SAST, dependency scanning, and secret management • Work with Git workflows including branching, merge requests, and version control best practices • Assist in managing build artifacts, container images, and package repositories • Gain exposure to and support tasks involving virtual machines, cloud infrastructure, and containerized environments • Support packaging and submission activities for applications to the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., App Store, related services) • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and IT teams to support day-to-day operations and ongoing improvements • Create and maintain technical documentation for automation, deployments, and operational procedures. Core Learning Areas: During the internship, the candidate will gain practical exposure to: • Linux systems, command-line tools, and server administration fundamentals • Virtual machines and on-premises server environments • Containerization using Docker • CI/CD platforms: GitLab (repositories, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines and runners) • Cloud-hosted infrastructure: Azure (primary), with exposure to AWS where applicable • Basic DevSecOps practices and secure development workflows • DevOps metrics and performance tracking (DORA metrics) • Microsoft services and ecosystem relevant to application deployment Required Qualifications: • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field • Basic understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD concepts • Basic understanding of Linux operating systems and command-line tools. • Familiarity with Git and version control workflows • Exposure to any CI/CD platform (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) • Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash, or similar) with an interest in automation • Foundational understanding of infrastructure concepts (virtual machines, containers, cloud vs on-prem environments) • Demonstrated curiosity, self-learning ability, and willingness to explore unfamiliar technologies. • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities may evolve and continuous learning is expected. • Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks, follow them through to completion, and seek help when needed. Nice to Have: • Exposure to Docker or container-based deployments • Awareness of DORA metrics or DevOps performance concepts • Basic understanding of software security practices (SAST, dependency scanning, etc.) • Familiarity with Azure or other cloud platforms • Interest in AI-assisted development workflows Desired Mindset & Skills: • Curious and proactive—eager to understand how systems work beyond just completing tasks • Automation-first mindset with interest in reducing manual effort through scripting and tooling • Strong problem-solving attitude and willingness to debug and troubleshoot issues • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools, technologies, and environments • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
