As a DFSV Capacity Building coordinator, you will play an important role in leading the implementation of DFSV capacity building initiatives across Queensland and strengthening sector capability through stakeholder engagement, partnership development and collaborative practice activities.


About the Role

The role leads SSI's DFSV capacity building initiatives in Queensland representative and is responsible for building strategic relationships across specialist DFSV services, multicultural organisations, and community and government stakeholders.

Working in partnership with the national DFSV Capacity Building Lead, the role provides leadership for Queensland-based capacity building workplan, including sector engagement, and facilitates the delivery of outcomes.


The role focuses on leading capacity building work with:


  • Domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) services to improve responsiveness to needs of victim survivors from migrant and refugee backgrounds, and
  • Multicultural and settlement services to improve understanding of DFSV and collaboration with the specialist DFSV sector for enhanced early intervention and effective responses.

This position is a full-time max term contract until the end of June 2027 with the possibility of extension, working hybrid from our Logan office or across Brisbane.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of capacity building strategies with DFSV and multicultural and settlement services to strengthen their capacity to work effectively with, and better support, multicultural communities and victim-survivors
  • Foster partnerships with stakeholders across government, the DFSV sector, the multicultural and settlement sector, and wider communities to achieve outcomes
  • Manage DFSV capacity building projects, including workplans and budgets, and provide leadership to respective teams
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure quality and timely delivery of project activities and commitments
  • Conceptualise and lead the development of research, policy and practice advice, briefings and grant proposals as relevant
  • Convene, facilitate and/or participate in a community(ies) of practice to promote evidence-based good practice in working with multicultural communities to prevent and respond to DFSV
  • Lead the development and implementation of good practice approaches and provide advice to improve service and community responsiveness
  • Coordinate advocacy for change within sectors and services in a collaborative spirit


Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Social Sciences, program management in related areas or equivalent experience
  • Project management - Demonstrated experience delivering and reporting on projects/programs on time and to a high quality
  • People leadership – ability to inspire and support high performing teams
  • Strategic stakeholder management – Experience building relationships with stakeholders to progress common goals
  • Written and verbal communication skills –The ability to confidently convey ideas and information with clarity and a deep understanding of audience and purpose
  • Expertise and skills to work in the DFSV sector
  • Multicultural background or extensive experience with multicultural communities
  • Knowledge of the current policy environment around DFSV
  • Strategic analytical skills related developing and translating evidence for impact
