The Director, Health Financing leads the development of ThinkWell’s health financing work and ensures technical excellence across ThinkWell’s portfolio. The Director is expected to provide guidance across various areas including public financial management, domestic resource mobilization and disbursement-linked indicators. The Director, Health Financing reports to the CEO. The Director is a recognized global leader in health financing and public financial management. The Director, Health Financing brings substantial technical expertise to support program design and execution, recruits and builds technical talent within the firm and supervises technical project staff. The Director, Health Financing provides technical leadership, is responsible for growing their portfolio and for ensuring high-quality technical project execution while playing a leading role overall in the firm. This position is fully remote. What you’ll do Technical Program Quality and Leadership Play a company-wide leadership role, building intellectual and human capital in health financing. Communicate with other ThinkWell directors and project managers globally to build, share, exchange and disseminate technical knowledge. Recruit, support, and mentor outstanding team members in health financing. Collaborate with ThinkWell’s talent team to design technical training and development activities that will support and build professional development. External Representation Lead and support engagement with global partners working on public financial management, domestic resource management, and creating outcomes-based financial modalities Publish papers, articles, and blogs; present at conferences and participate in technical working groups; build ThinkWell’s reputation as a thought leader in the field. Represent ThinkWell at conferences, meetings, and other venues Consult and coordinate with key stakeholders within government, donors, and other entities to build ThinkWell’s reputation. New Business Development Contribute to the extension and expansion of activities through collaboration with other projects within the firm and external partners. Master’s degree in health economics, health policy or related field with 10 years of experience or a PhD and 8 years of experience; Reputation as a leader in the area of technical specialty with a track record of high-impact publications and/or a strong international, professional network in the field; Substantive, relevant work experience in the specific area of technical expertise. (e.g., ministries of health and ministries of finance experience, health financing or health policy expertise, health systems strengthening, etc.). Adept at communicating technical information to non-technical audiences; Track record of managing complex, multi-country projects, and extensive experience with project monitoring and evaluation in the area of technical specialization; Strong capabilities in domestic resource mobilization and public financial management; Preference for individuals with experience creating and monitoring disbursement-linked indicators and outcomes-based programming; Previous experience working with USG funding and USG transition work is strongly preferred, including deep relationships with former USAID Mission staff and MOH staff; Demonstrated interest and ability in growing staff, mentoring and coaching junior professionals; A senior leader, able to rally staff around ThinkWell’s mission and priorities; A thoughtful systems thinker with grounded, pragmatic understanding of the complexities of our work; Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external strategic partners, donors, and stakeholders; Proven new business development, proposal writing and fundraising experience; Full English fluency required, second language a plus; Global experience partnering across varying country income levels Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to relate respectfully with staff at all levels, ages, genders, nationalities and orientations as well as across work areas; Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.
