Job Description This is a remote position. About EntrepreNorth EntrepreNorth is a Northern and Indigenous-led organization that empowers Indigenous entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses and livelihoods across the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon. We believe entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for self-determination, economic justice, and community wellbeing. Through culturally rooted business education, access to relational capital, storytelling, and ecosystem-building, we support entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. Our work spans a growing suite of offerings for entrepreneurs: programming, eLearning, the Sinew Impact Fund, a podcast and films, a Policy Circle, and Northern events. We are a small, passionate team committed to decolonizing business education and support, and we are scaling. The Opportunity This is a founding Director-level role for the communications and marketing function at EntrepreNorth. You will have significant influence over how the function is built, what it prioritizes, and how it grows. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with the broader Directors team to develop and execute multi-audience strategies that reach Northern Indigenous entrepreneurs, funders, social finance partners, and the wider Indigenous business ecosystem. You’ll also directly manage our MarComms Lead: a passionate, high-potential team member who is ready for the right mentor and leader. The role is primarily strategic: you’ll refine our existing communications foundations, develop the frameworks, and build the capacity — through team growth and contractor relationships — that EntrepreNorth needs to communicate with impact and at scale. That said, we’re a small team in a builder phase, and you’ll be comfortable rolling up your sleeves when it matters. What You Will Do Communications & Narrative Strategy Refine and activate EntrepreNorth’s existing communications strategy by sharpening our brand narrative, audience segmentation, and content direction, and building a clear plan to put it into motion. Develop a cohesive organizational voice and tone that reflects EntrepreNorth’s values, our Northern Indigenous mandate, and our position as a sector leader. Drive impact storytelling in close partnership with our contracted Indigenous evaluator — translating evaluation findings, participant outcomes, and program results into narratives that resonate with entrepreneurs, funders, and our broader ecosystem. Lead thought leadership and narrative work that positions EntrepreNorth at the forefront of conversations about Northern Indigenous entrepreneurship and economic self-determination. • Oversee public relations activities including press releases for key organizational announcements and media relationships. Marketing & Audience Growth Develop go-to-market strategies for EntrepreNorth’s suite of offerings: programming, eLearning, the Sinew Impact Fund, multimedia storytelling, the Policy Circle, and Northern events. Identify and reach new audiences, with particular focus on connecting with Northern Indigenous entrepreneurs who haven’t yet found EntrepreNorth. Build and refine strategies for multiple distinct audiences: entrepreneurs, funders and investors, the Indigenous business ecosystem, and the social finance community. Develop and oversee content strategy to ensure our content reflects who we are, reaches the right people, and moves them to engage. Team Building & Leadership Directly manage and mentor the MarComms Lead, providing strategic guidance and coaching that will support their growth journey. Assess current communications and marketing capacity and develop a plan to build the function — identifying future hiring needs, contractor relationships, and operational priorities. Collaborate closely with the CEO and Directors team to ensure communications and marketing are integrated into organizational strategy and program design from the start. Who You Are We're looking for someone who is genuinely excited by this work and who brings the experience and instincts to do it well. Someone who understands that in this work, how you communicate is just as important as what you say; and who brings the cultural sensitivity and strategic sharpness to get both right. Requirements Required 6+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or narrative strategy with demonstrated success across multi-audience environments. We value depth of experience over years. Exceptional candidates with a strong track record are encouraged to apply. Proven ability to develop and execute communications and marketing strategies at a senior level; not just execute tasks, but set direction and build systems. Experience in mission-driven, nonprofit, or Indigenous-led organizations; you understand how to communicate with authenticity and accountability. Strong writing and editorial instincts: you can shape a narrative, sharpen a message, and recognize what will actually land with a given audience. Experience with impact storytelling and translating complex program outcomes into compelling, accessible communications. Comfort with digital marketing, content strategy, and the practical channels (social, email, web, media) that reach real audiences. Experience managing or mentoring others, and a genuine interest in helping people and teams to grow. Assets Deeply curious: about the North, about Indigenous entrepreneurship, about the communities and contexts you’re communicating for. Empathetic in your approach: you listen before you communicate, and you build understanding before you build campaigns. A builder, not just a manager. You’re energized by the early stages of creating something, not put off by the ambiguity that comes with it. Collaborative and organizationally savvy: you know how to work alongside program teams, funders, and leadership without losing your own strategic thread. Benefits Competitive base salary: $110,000 - $125,000 Comprehensive employer-paid extended health, vision, and dental benefits package starting on your first day of employment Annual Retirement Savings contribution EntrepreNorth $1,500 annual professional development budget 4 weeks of paid vacation 10 sick and personal days Winter office closure and Summer schedule Flexible, remote-first work environment Travel to the territories, connecting directly with the communities and entrepreneurs we serve A dynamic, inclusive team culture that fosters innovation and creativity
