Job Description: Position Summary The Director of Finance manages one of the regional financial accounting and advisory services groups of The Salvation Army for Canada and Bermuda and has responsibility for relationship management and for providing financial and strategic advice to the various mission partner leadership teams within the related region. The Director of Finance conducts financial reviews as required, monitors overall financial health for various operating units in Canada and Bermuda and through a collaborative approach with the appropriate divisional or territorial leadership teams, develops action plans to address concerns when needed. The Director of Finance recommends and administers policies and procedures pertaining to such matters and is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Key Accountabilities Lead the delivery of financial accounting and advisory services across multiple operating entities, ensuring sound financial management, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, financial controls, and chart of accounts standards to support accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance. Monitor and assess the financial health, performance, and long-term sustainability of operating units, identifying risks and recommending corrective actions to strengthen financial outcomes. Conduct financial reviews, analyze key performance indicators, and collaborate with leadership to develop and implement action plans that address financial and operational concerns. Partner with mission leaders and stakeholders to provide strategic financial advice, interpret policies, and support informed decision-making on operational and organizational priorities. Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including annual operating and capital budgets, long-term forecasts, variance analysis, and performance monitoring. Oversee financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information. Manage internal and external audit activities, regulatory filings, charitable and tax returns, and financial statement preparation to meet all compliance and reporting requirements. Support cash flow management, capital projects, government funding initiatives, and stakeholder reporting by providing financial analysis, forecasts, budgets, and funding-related guidance. Supervise, mentor, and develop finance staff while fostering strong stakeholder relationships, building financial management capacity, and promoting continuous improvement across finance operations. Education and Experience Qualifications Completion of an undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related discipline. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required. Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive accounting, finance, or business management experience, including leadership responsibility for budgeting, financial management, and operational oversight. Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience, with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams. Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial management practices, and financial reporting requirements, including regulatory compliance and audit processes. Experience developing solutions to complex business and financial challenges, managing large-scale initiatives, and exercising sound judgment with a high degree of independence. Strong understanding of integrated business systems, automated workflows, and accounting technologies, including cloud-based and web-enabled applications. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools, with the ability to interpret, analyze, and present complex financial information. Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and customer service skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively. Non-profit sector experience, including reporting to government agencies and external funders, is considered an asset. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $105,518.40 to $131,913.60 with a maximum of $158,288.00. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
