WHAT YOU’LL DO The Editorial Coordinator provides administrative and editorial support for the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD) and Kidney Medicine , two leading peer-reviewed journals focused on nephrology and kidney health. Reporting to the Managing Editor, this fully remote, full-time position supports the editorial offices in managing manuscript workflows, coordinating peer review activities, supporting journal communications and promotions, and assisting with day-to-day editorial operations from pre-submission through post-publication. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced academic publishing environment with clinicians, researchers, editors, and publishing partners. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Respond to pre-submission inquiries from prospective authors. Coordinate invited and commissioned content, including sending invitations and tracking responses. Perform initial checks of newly submitted manuscripts and follow up with authors regarding submission requirements or missing materials. Support the peer review process by inviting reviewers and responding to reviewer queries. Send reminders to authors regarding upcoming submissions, revisions, and overdue materials. Send reminders to editors regarding pending or overdue editorial decisions. Track and manage co-author confirmation requirements within the manuscript submission system. Prepare and schedule weekly and monthly blog and promotional content. Review article proofs to ensure content is formatted appropriately and copyediting standards have been met. Update status of editorial internship assignments. Coordinate and manage AJKD cover selection processes. Request and record availability of editors. Handle ad approval requests between the publisher and the Editor-in-Chief. Draft routine editorial correspondence, including congratulatory letters. Assist in promoting journal content across social media platforms, including X, Bluesky, and Facebook. Assist with data collection, editorial metrics tracking, publication charge monitoring, and special editorial projects. Provide out-of-office coverage for other team members as needed. Support additional administrative and manuscript-related tasks as assigned by the Managing Editor. WHAT YOU’LL POSSESS Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in biomedical sciences, English, communications, marketing, or a related field. Minimum of 1–2 years of editorial office, scholarly publishing, or related experience preferred. Familiarity with peer review processes, Editorial Manager or similar manuscript systems, WordPress, and social media platforms is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment. Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and online manuscript management systems. Comfortable communicating primarily through email and online editorial platforms.
