About The Role

We are expanding Gloucestershire's Educational Psychology Service and are seeking Educational Psychologists to join our highly regarded and growing team. With additional funding secured through to 2027, these opportunities will support the continued development of our consultative model of service delivery and our commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people across the county.

We currently have a number of opportunities available, including permanent and fixed-term positions, with six two-year fixed-term posts supporting the "Experts at Hand" programme. We welcome applications from experienced Educational Psychologists as well as those who will be qualifying in Autumn 2027.

As an Educational Psychologist within Gloucestershire, you will have the opportunity to undertake a diverse range of work that extends beyond statutory duties. We are passionate about consultative approaches and believe psychologists are most effective when they have the time and opportunity to build relationships within schools and settings, contribute to workforce development, and apply psychology at both an individual and strategic level.

All Educational Psychologists contribute to strategic areas of development led by specialist leads, including mobility and transition, removing barriers to learning, communication and interaction, resilience and emotional wellbeing, and supporting vulnerable groups. This includes involvement in highly valued programmes such as Mental Health in Schools, ELSA, ELKLAN, school capacity-building initiatives, and training and conference provision for SENCOs.

About You

We are looking for flexible, creative and solution-focused Educational Psychologists who are passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will be enthusiastic about the role of educational psychology in creating meaningful change and recognise the value of both high-quality casework and wider systems-based approaches. You will be committed to consultative ways of working and keen to apply psychological principles strategically through workforce development, organisational change and partnership working.

You will be a collaborative team player who enjoys building positive relationships with schools, families and multi-agency partners, whilst bringing energy, innovation and professional curiosity to your practice.

About Us

Gloucestershire's Educational Psychology Service forms part of STEPS (Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service), a friendly, supportive and innovative team of Educational Psychologists and Advisory Teachers. We work closely with schools, settings and SEND specialists across the county to promote child development, learning and inclusion.

Our service is recognised for its strong consultative approach and commitment to relationship-based practice. We are passionate about ensuring Educational Psychologists have the time to undertake meaningful work within schools and settings while contributing to strategic projects and workforce development initiatives that make a lasting difference.

Joining Our Service Means Becoming Part Of a Collaborative And Supportive Team That Values Professional Growth, Innovation And Wellbeing. We Offer

  • The opportunity to work within an expanding and forward-thinking Educational Psychology Service.
  • Weekly project and strategic work opportunities as a core part of the role.
  • Managed workloads and limits on EHCNA work.
  • Career progression opportunities and specialist lead roles.
  • A reduced contact area and dedicated development time for newly qualified Educational Psychologists.
  • A strong programme of CPD, induction, supervision and peer support.
  • Dedicated administrative support, allowing you to focus on applying psychology.
  • A diverse range of work across both rural and urban communities within Gloucestershire.
  • A highly competitive reward package, including Soulbury A Scale 5-10 plus 3 SPA points, Local Government Pension Scheme membership, generous annual leave entitlement, and a welcome package (subject to conditions).

Open Evening: Online briefing session via Microsoft Teams on 17 September 2026.
