AHV delivers top-notch talent, personalized service and quality Electrical Engineering and EPC projects. We are seeking an Engineer 1 - Electrical at our corporate office in Albany, NY. Position Summary: The position assumes the responsibilities of an electrical engineer performing design of LV, HV, EHV electrical power systems with emphasis on design of electrical power substations of transmission and distribution systems. The Engineer 1 will be responsible for collaborating with a team of engineers and drafters to support substation engineering design projects, including detailed electrical and physical design for substation projects and providing engineering design and construction support for assigned projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position: · Practical knowledge and understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction types of projects. · Developing single-line switching and protection diagrams. · Developing three-line and DC schematic diagrams. · Developing and maintaining a bill of material. · Developing cable and conduit schedule, including sizing · Conducting the required calculations and creating reports: AC and DC systems including sizing DC battery, overvoltage protection and coordination, conduit fill, grounding, lightning protection, etc. · Developing control panel layouts and wiring diagrams; Selecting protective devices and ratings. · Review and coordination of substation physical drawings and calculations including general arrangements, clearances, details, conduit, grounding, lightning protection, etc. · Design of underground MV and HV cabling systems including cable ampacity, installation details, etc. · Assure that all engineering documents and records are properly maintained. · Coordination/guidance of designers/drafters and detailed review/approval of electrical drawings. · Participate in development of less experienced engineers and designers · Provide engineering specifications and other information required by purchasing to procure equipment. · Selecting and ordering substation materials and/or equipment. · Review vendor submittals. Supervision: · N/A Professional Registration: · Engineer in Training Certification preferable, but not required. Educational Requirements: · Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering - required · Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering - preferred · Educational courses in power systems analysis, electrical machinery, etc. · Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards. Experience & Training Requirements: · Highly motivated and able to execute tasks provided adequate supervision. · Good written and verbal communications skills. · Ability to work well with others in a team setting. · Skilled in engineering theories and principles. · Skilled in practice of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations. · Skilled in problem solving in time-sensitive situations Computer Skills: · Demonstrated experience in the following software programs: o Microsoft Word – basic o Microsoft Excel – basic o Microsoft Outlook – basic o AutoCAD (2015 or later) – advanced Travel Requirements: · Engineer 1 travel level is typically 10%.
