As an Engineering Manager, AI & ML, you will play a vital role in executing the company’s AI and machine learning initiatives with a strong focus on generating and delivering insights from PitchBook’s wealth of structured data and unstructured text (reports, news, etc.) in the PitchBook Platform. This position will require deep technical expertise in advanced structured and unstructured data analytics, and a hands-on approach to managing and mentoring engineers. Your leadership will ensure that our AI & ML insights are developed and operationalized at the highest standards of performance, reliability, and security. You will be working closely with individual contributors, ensuring that projects align with broader business goals and AI/ML strategies. This role requires deep engagement in the design, development, and maintenance of AI & ML models, solutions, architecture, and services. You will need to provide strong technical direction, problem-solve complex technical challenges, and ensure that the team consistently delivers high-quality, scalable solutions. You will leverage your deep knowledge in areas such as advanced natural language processing (NLP), Generative AI (GenAI), and large language models (LLMs), data architecture, and cloud-managed services. Your goal will be to drive unique value for our customers through the speed, quantity, quality, and discoverability of data in the PitchBook Platform using artificial intelligence technologies, ml models, and data algorithms. Incorporated in this are both the ability to decipher insights from millions of discrete unstructured and structured data sources for incorporation in our platform and the acumen to apply ML models to our stored datasets to uncover and deliver opaque insights and predictions to our customers. Your leadership will ensure that our AI/ML systems align with global business strategies, maintaining seamless integration and high-performance standards. You will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML data systems—from research and development to deployment and operationalization. You will be responsible for mentoring team members, resolving technical challenges, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration while ensuring they have the right resources, tools, frameworks, and guidance to succeed. Our Tech Stack & Focus Areas Generative AI & LLMs: Develop and maintain LLM-based solutions for generative features. Classic ML Models: Develop and maintain predictive and classification models for financial data Vector Databases: Implementing efficient storage and retrieval systems for high-dimensional data embeddings. Embeddings: Developing hybrid models to extract insights from diverse data sources. High-Volume Data Management: Engineering systems capable of handling massive, real-time data streams. As a qualified expert, You will: Lead machine learning engineering implementation and execution (operations, processes, practices, and standards), and code quality across the team, working closely with engineering leadership and product management to craft roadmaps and achieve success criterias. Ensure AI/ML roadmap items are delivered on-time and with exceptional quality. Serves as a force multiplier for AI/ML teams by removing roadblocks, implementing process improvements, providing frequent, actionable feedback to team members, and building practices for ideation and innovation. Ensure robust AI/ML engineering solutions and documentation are maintained, developing a detailed understanding of key aspects of current software state, and engaging AI/ML engineers at a code and design level. Describe technical context in intuitive ways for different audiences, adapting communication from highly technical deep dives with engineers to non-technical dialogue with executive stakeholders. Learn constantly, including in NLP techniques, AI, ML and MLOps technologies, libraries, and frameworks (commercial and open source), data engineering, and cloud services for ML. We’re looking for you if you have M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related. 7+ years in engineering or data science roles with a machine learning focus. 3+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct management responsibilities of at least 5 people. 3+ years hands-on coding and delivering large-scale ML models and systems as a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist. Natural language processing (NLP) experience a must. Extensive experience with Python and associated ML libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, keras, and PyTorch. Strong SQL knowledge is a must. Experience owning machine learning services that are provided “as a service” to other teams as part of a large-scale distributed microservices architecture. Experience with data pipelines, data platforms, and data lake/warehouse technologies, such as Apache Kafka, Amazon SNS/SQS/Kinesis, Apache Airflow, Spark, AWS Glue, GCP Cloud Dataflow, Snowflake. Experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker, and understanding how to build cloud-scale delivery, including scalability, resiliency, and recoverability. Has successfully delivered on large technical initiatives from scoping to launch, with a strong metrics focus. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. English — Upper Intermediate or higher; Ukrainian — fluent.
