Job Description - Engineering Technologist II (55697) Job Description Engineering Technologist II Up to 18 months Job Number : 55697 Join the Development Services branch and help shape the growth of our vibrant city. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise to vital municipal infrastructure and grading projects. As an Engineering Technologist II, your primary focus will be evaluating and approving private land development engineering designs. Working within the Subdivision and Development Coordination section, you will ensure that storm, sanitary servicing, and lot grading plans align with municipal standards and guidelines. Under the supervision of a Senior Development Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external industry professionals to guide applications safely and efficiently through the approval lifecycle. What will you do? Review and evaluate private development engineering drawings for storm systems, sanitary servicing, and lot grading to ensure adherence to municipal, corporate, and provincial standards Recommend designs for approval and collaborate closely with subdivision planning teams regarding the status of Neighbourhood Design Reports and Drainage Servicing Reports Process and evaluate Utility Right-of-Way (URW), restrictive covenant, and discharge documentation Investigate and provide technical feedback on technical inquiries from consultants, internal teams, and external utility collaborators Provide input, analytical data, and technical support to promote the consistent implementation of policies and bylaws Utilize computer-aided programs and software to evaluate drainage models and maintain data logs for circulation tracking Conduct ad hoc field reviews of design sites to verify field conditions and resolve potential design conflicts Qualifications : Completion of a minimum two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized Institute of Technology. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in stormwater management, sanitary sewer systems, and lot grading within the land development field Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) or an approved equivalent Assets: Familiarity with local municipal land development procedures, bylaws, and provincial drainage frameworks Skills required for success: Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Expertise in municipal engineering principles, specifically hydraulics and hydrology Proficiency in evaluating technical engineering drawings, lot grading specifications, and design reports Competency using computer-aided drafting software (such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD) to review electronic site and infrastructure plans Command of standard office productivity software, including spreadsheet, document, and email applications Aptitude for organizing workload tasks to consistently meet time-sensitive service level targets Precision and meticulous attention to detail when cross-referencing complex technical specifications Interpersonal skills to foster productive, professional relationships within a collaborative team structure Written communication skills to deliver clear, well-reasoned technical feedback and commentary Verbal communication skills to confidently justify and articulate engineering assessment outcomes Analytical problem-solving skills to anticipate legal, physical, and environmental impacts during plan reviews Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( https://bit.ly/4brRrXm ) Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation, and inclusion Conditions of Employment: Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement Applicants may be tested Work Environment: Note : This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52 This role works primarily in an indoor setting This role requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as sitting requiring physical stamina and resilience The City of Edmonton values applicants with a diverse range of skills, experiences and competencies, and encourages you to apply.
