Position Overview Fathom Management is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect with recent Hands-On Architecture to support a Department of Veterans Affairs project focused on enterprise architecture, financial systems, healthcare claims processing, enterprise integration, cloud modernization, and legacy system transformation. The successful candidate will bring approximately 15 years of overall IT/technology experience, including 3–5 years of hands-on Enterprise Architecture experience , with current technical skills in developing cloud architecture diagrams, legacy architecture diagrams, infrastructure specifications, integration models, and detailed enterprise architecture deliverables . This is not a purely governance, advisory, or executive-level architecture position . The successful candidate must remain technically hands-on and capable of personally developing architecture artifacts, evaluating technical alternatives, documenting infrastructure and integration designs, and working directly with engineers and technical teams. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in financial processing and healthcare claims environments , preferably within Federal Government environments, and should understand the architecture and integration requirements associated with X12, HL7, IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, iFAMS, and enterprise financial/healthcare systems . Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 15 years of relevant professional experience required. Candidates with 5 + years of relevant experience may substitute experience for education , where applicable. Enterprise Architecture Approximately 15 years of overall IT/technology experience preferred. 3–5 years of hands-on Enterprise Architecture experience preferred. Recent hands-on experience developing cloud architecture diagrams and specifications . Recent hands-on experience documenting legacy architecture and modernization/transition architectures . Experience personally developing logical and physical architecture diagrams . Experience developing infrastructure specifications covering compute, network, storage, security, integration, and cloud components. Experience conducting architecture assessments and documenting technical alternatives, risks, costs, dependencies, and implementation considerations. Experience working directly with engineers and technical teams to translate architecture into implementable solutions. Demonstrated experience with financial processing and healthcare claims processing . Experience with Federal Government financial or healthcare systems strongly preferred. Experience with X12 and HL7 in healthcare/financial transaction environments. Experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator strongly preferred. Translate business strategy, mission objectives, and operational requirements into actionable technical strategies and enterprise architecture roadmaps. Establish and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, design patterns, reference architectures, and technology best practices. Develop and maintain logical and physical architecture models and diagrams supporting enterprise and solution architecture decisions. Conduct architecture reviews and identify opportunities to improve system design, integration, performance, security, scalability, and maintainability. Evaluate architectural alternatives and provide recommendations based on business requirements, technical feasibility, risk, cost, and long-term sustainability. Support legacy-to-cloud modernization strategies, including hybrid cloud architecture and transition planning. Financial Systems & Healthcare Architecture Apply deep technical knowledge of financial processing, accounting, payroll, financial claims, and healthcare systems to enterprise architecture initiatives. Support architecture and integration involving iFAMS and financial enterprise systems . Design and evaluate healthcare claims processing architectures across on-premises and cloud environments. Support integration of external trading partners and enterprise financial and healthcare systems. Develop and maintain architecture for healthcare transactions and financial processing workflows. API & Enterprise Integration Design API and integration architectures supporting internal systems, external systems, applications, and trading partners. Design integration models for IBM Sterling B2B Integrator supporting healthcare claims and financial transactions. Support X12 and HL7 transaction processing through enterprise integration platforms. Define integration patterns using APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, and enterprise service bus technologies. Evaluate and integrate technologies such as MuleSoft, Oracle Service Bus, JBoss, or other ESB platforms . Establish standards for API design, integration, security, scalability, and interoperability. Cloud & Technology Architecture Provide architecture leadership across AWS, Azure, hybrid cloud, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments. Develop cloud modernization and migration strategies for legacy enterprise systems. Evaluate cloud-native architectures, infrastructure services, application platforms, data platforms, and security controls. Incorporate GenAI, AI Chatbot, and AI-enabled enterprise capabilities into architecture strategies where appropriate. Evaluate technology solutions for scalability, resiliency, security, performance, cost, and maintainability. Architecture Governance Support Enterprise Architecture governance, project intake, solution architecture reviews, and technology governance processes. Support Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC) and Exhibit 300-related architecture activities. Conduct architecture assessments covering: Business requirements Technical solutions Architecture alternatives Cost estimates Resource requirements Security considerations Risks Implementation considerations Support governance aligned with applicable Federal architecture frameworks and methodologies. Apply principles from TOGAF, Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA), Federal Segment Architecture Methodology (FSAM), VAAF, and DoDAF , where applicable. Delivery & Leadership Lead and mentor technical teams while remaining actively engaged in architecture and technical delivery. Collaborate with engineers, product owners, data analysts, security professionals, business partners, and government stakeholders. Work within Agile/Scrum and SAFe delivery environments. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and communicate status, decisions, dependencies, and expected outcomes to stakeholders. Provide constructive technical coaching and guidance to team members. Drive high-quality architecture deliverables within established schedules and deadlines. Produce and maintain detailed technical architecture documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
