Job Title: Environmental Engineer – General Job Description This role focuses on identifying safety regulatory and homologation requirements for vehicle programs and partnering closely with product development engineers to ensure full compliance across global markets. You will support program integration and compliance demonstration throughout the entire vehicle development cycle, including product launch, ongoing change management, and field evaluations. The position requires an engineer who can translate complex regulatory requirements into clear plans, guide teams through certification and approval processes, and help ensure vehicles meet all applicable standards and program milestones. Responsibilities Identify safety regulatory and homologation requirements for vehicle program teams across all applicable global markets. Work closely with product development engineers to ensure vehicle compliance demonstration aligned with program timing milestones throughout development, launch, and ongoing changes. Participate in vehicle program regulatory planning processes to ensure requirements are clearly cascaded and implemented in a robust and traceable manner. Develop and deliver safety plans for vehicle programs and actively contribute to the target setting process. Support the development of homologation plans and ensure vehicle programs complete homologation processes for global markets. Support product milestone deliverables and manage compliance demonstration planning and reporting activities. Track compliance documentation submissions and homologation progress for assigned programs. Provide risk assessments to vehicle program teams at major program milestones and reviews based on compliance and homologation status. Collaborate with cross-functional and diverse teams to resolve issues related to regulatory compliance, homologation, and certification. Apply program management skills to coordinate tasks, timelines, and deliverables related to emissions testing, vehicle certification, and environmental compliance. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. At least 1 year of experience with program management (coursework in program management is acceptable). Experience with emissions testing and vehicle certification processes. Ability to understand and apply safety regulatory and homologation requirements to vehicle programs. Strong analytical skills to assess compliance risks and interpret regulatory requirements. Ability to plan, track, and report on compliance and homologation activities across multiple program milestones. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong written and oral communication skills to clearly convey regulatory requirements, plans, and risk assessments to technical and non-technical stakeholders. At least 1 year of product development experience with knowledge of global regulatory requirements, including FMVSS, ECE, GCC, and China regulations. At least 1 year of experience or familiarity with vehicle self-certification and vehicle type approval witness testing processes. Experience or interest in environmental compliance and related standards. Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, often with conflicting or competing objectives. High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when tracking documentation, certifications, and homologation progress. Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with four days per week on-site and one day per week remote. On-site work takes place in a professional engineering and product development setting that involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, participation in program reviews, and access to tools and systems used for regulatory planning, emissions testing, and vehicle certification tracking. The role requires comfort working in a structured environment with defined program milestones, documentation processes, and compliance procedures, while also offering flexibility through remote work for planning, analysis, and reporting tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Allen Park, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.30 - $42.30/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
