We are looking for a qualified and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Safety Team at Welwyn Hatfield.
In this role, you will play a key part in protecting public health by delivering a programme of food hygiene, food standards and health & safety inspections, alongside responding to complaints and service requests across the borough.
You will work with a wide range of businesses and stakeholders, providing clear advice, taking proportionate enforcement action, and contributing to safer communities across the borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out food hygiene and standards inspections in line with the Food Law Code of Practice
- Investigate complaints relating to food safety and health & safety matters
- Undertake accident investigations/health and safety complaints and inspections
- Investigate infectious disease control activity
- Take enforcement action where required, including serving notices and preparing prosecution cases
- Provide input into licensing and planning consultations
- Manage a varied caseload effectively
About You:
- You will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner and have a degree or equivalent qualification.
- Experienced in enforcement under Health & Safety legislation, and confident in making proportionate decisions.
- Competent under the Food Law Code of Practice and be able to demonstrate ongoing CPD.
- Strong communicator, well organised, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
The role is hybrid with office attendance 2/3 days a week, subject to service needs. You will be required to attend the office more often during your training period.
The post holder will have a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle to travel across the borough.
This role involves working outside of normal office hours when required, including occasional evenings.
