Job Summary
We are looking for an ETL Test Engineer with 2–10 years of experience to support our client in India. The role focuses on validating ETL workflows, data movement, transformation logic, data quality, and data warehouse processes. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with SQL, ETL tools, data warehouses, and, where required, Big Data technologies. You will work closely with QA, development, data engineering, and business teams to identify issues and ensure that data is accurate, complete, and reliable.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute test scenarios and test cases for ETL, data warehouse, and data integration processes.
- Validate data extraction, transformation, and loading between source and target systems.
- Perform source-to-target validation, data reconciliation, and data integrity checks.
- Use SQL to validate datasets, investigate discrepancies, and execute complex queries.
- Test data migration, transformation rules, mappings, and business logic.
- Validate fact tables, dimension tables, dimensional models, and data marts.
- Perform database, functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end ETL testing.
- Test large-volume datasets and data pipelines in Big Data environments where applicable.
- Work with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, DataStage, SSIS, or similar platforms.
- Analyze failures, investigate defects, identify root causes, and coordinate with developers and data teams for resolution.
- Execute and maintain test cases, document results, and track defects through tools such as JIRA or Azure Boards.
- Support testing within CI/CD environments using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
- Work within Agile delivery teams and follow established SDLC and STLC practices.
- Prepare clear test reports and communicate testing status, risks, and data-quality issues to stakeholders.
Required Technical Skills
- 2–10 years of experience in software testing with strong expertise in ETL Testing, Data Warehouse (DWH) Testing, and Big Data Testing.
- Hands-on experience with ETL processes, data migration, data transformation, and data quality validation.
- Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliation, backend testing, and complex query execution.
- Experience with Informatica, Talend, DataStage, SSIS, or similar ETL technologies.
- Good understanding of data warehouse concepts, dimensional data modeling, fact tables, dimension tables, and data marts.
- Knowledge of Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HDFS, Kafka, or similar Big Data technologies.
- Experience with data validation, data integrity testing, database testing, and end-to-end ETL workflow testing.
- Working knowledge of TestNG/JUnit, SQL clients, and Unix/Linux commands.
- Familiarity with Git and version control practices.
- Experience with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or similar CI/CD tools.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC/STLC processes.
- Experience with JIRA, Azure Boards, or similar defect tracking tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience testing large-volume or complex data pipelines.
- Exposure to automated ETL or data validation frameworks.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms or modern data warehouses.
- Knowledge of performance testing for data-intensive applications.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum development environments.
AI Experience
AI experience is not specifically required for this role. Familiarity with AI-assisted testing or data validation tools may be useful but is not mandatory.
Managerial Experience
People management experience is not mandatory. The role requires the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Operational Experience
- Experience working within structured QA and testing processes.
- Ability to manage testing activities across multiple ETL workflows or releases.
- Strong attention to detail when working with large datasets.
- Ability to communicate defects, testing progress, risks, and data-quality findings clearly.
Qualifications
B.Sc., B.Tech/B.E., B.C.A., or equivalent graduate qualification in any specialization. Relevant hands-on testing experience may also be considered.
Certifications
Relevant software testing, database, data engineering, Big Data, or cloud certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
