Experienced healthcare IT experts, doers and leaders strengthening Karolinska’s “CDR catalyst” integration and AI context initiative.

We are looking for international top competence that can strengthen Karolinska’s “CDR catalyst” integration and AI context initiative. These positions are in the form of project recruitments that according to current Swedish regulations can last maximum 4 years. (If we announce permanent positions during that time, you are of course welcome to apply to those and switch form of employment.)

• All of the positions (except the project leader one) can be performed mostly remote from anywhere in the world if you wish – provided you remotely can attend some meetings per week during Swedish business hours and also can travel to Stockholm some times per year and spend some consecutive days here.
• If you find these tasks exciting, but you are bound by other existing obligations we may for some positions also consider part time employments, and one or several shorter limited time contract periods that fit you and us. Such periods can start later during the initiative, but you are wise to apply already now, since application to this ad has an end date.

Other questions are based on mandatory requirements.

You are also expected to upload a CV (but no personal letter). We want a balanced expert team so interviews, relevant knowledge/expertise/experience and CVs carry a lot of weight in the selection process.

We do have other ways to recruit and procure general IT-competence, including general AI competence, for example Region Stockholm IT Consultancy agreement (a DPS – dynamic purchasing system open to suitable firms to apply to at any time). So if you do not fit the specific requirements below, then please focus on getting your firm/employer to join that DPS rather than spending your and our time on an application here.

Applicants should be aware of that, like at most university hospitals, we start with a backlog of unmet needs. The team will assist in continuously detecting and reducing bottlenecks (technical, organizational/way of work etc.) and in finding all sorts of ways to catalyze and safely speed up development both within the initiative and in related teams/projects. This can be done e.g. via better ways-of-work and via automation (including with AI when data can be well understood by AI).

Experienced health IT project leader (1-2 positions)

Purpose and responsibilities:

• Coordinate all stages of CDR Catalyst initiative by aligning technical delivery, resource planning, and stakeholder engagement.
• Build a project culture that combines rigorous semantic and architectural thinking with pragmatic, iterative progress and deliveries.
• The culture you build needs to be open-minded and safely harbor mixed thoughts, opinions and predictions about the rapidly shifting IT and medical/scientific landscape. You need to direct the initiative in a way that ensures that clinical teams and researchers can actually use the resulting systems, tools and data within reasonable time from when new needs surface.
• Coordinate the collaboration in the (likely international) core CDR Catalyst doer/builder/architect/informatics team and facilitate collaboration with other teams.
• Coordinate (and help recruit and adjust) the CDR Catalyst international strategic advisory board over different phases of the initiative.
• At times when the CDR catalyst initiative does not need your full attention and all working hours you will help leading or assisting other initiatives at the hospital and in the region

Requirements

• You are experienced in talking directly to clinical stakeholders, researchers, developers, architects and hospital/regional management. A lot of this communication will be in Swedish during meetings etc. (Even though most will know English very well.)
• You are experienced in leading teams of experts, getting them to jointly deliver value needed by stakeholders (including end users).
• You are usually available for weekly meetings in Stockholm (sometimes more often)
• You have a working proficiency in Swedish and English, so that you can participate in meetings and dialogues in Swedish and Enlgish.
• At least three years of verifiable experience leading health IT projects, preferably also complex ones.

Meritorious

• Verifiable long experience, educations and courses in health IT technologies/standards and related leadership

Experienced health IT doers, builders, architects, informatics- and integration-specialists (2-5 positions)

We believe some of the best candidates for these positions may have experience and interest covering several of the roles below. Thus the questions for these positions in the ad are combined so you can describe your skills and interests instead of just picking one of them:

• Senior clinical modeling experts and integration experts experienced in combinations of openEHR, FHIR, OMOP, SNOMED CT, ontologies, terminology binding etc. (We suspect most such experts are only available part time)
• Technological realization – smart doers/builders/toolmakers and AI expertise experienced in electronic health data, and/or “third AI-wave” combinations like neuro-symbolic solutions. With understanding for and interest in the goals expressed in the CDR Catalyst draft document.
• Semantic framework (knowledge graph etc.) strategist with deep openEHR and ontology-knowledge [One position for this role is in the process of being filled already when this ad is published, but we don’t mind more such experts if available full- or part-time]

Requirements

• Education and experience fitting the role(s) applied for (see questions)
• Remote or on site – ability to travel to Stockholm some times per year and spending some consecutive days here. And possibility to join remote meetings during some part of Swedish business hours 1-2 times a week. We’ll try adjust to time zones of team members if possible.

Meritous

• Existing provable deep multi-year engagement in health-IT standardization organizations, research and practical use.
• Experience in disciplined efficient use of AI-agents for creating and maintaining software and other information assets. For implementation we will use a lot of AI and you must be able to set up the work in control loops with verification etc so that delegation is safe and the balance between HTIL and automation is continuously being optimized.
• For Senior clinical modeling experts it is meritous to be very experienced in openEHR, terminology binding using SNOMED CT etc.

About the recruitment process

MAP is a personality test and Matrigma is a non-verbal cognitive ability test, both of which are based on research in occupational psychology. The tests are used to complement your experience and skills, and the purpose is to ensure our selection process is quality-assured and transparent.
