This senior-level role involves acting as a critical gatekeeper for project funds by auditing and approving subcontractor production submissions to ensure billing matches actual field production. It also involves working closely with city officials, utility companies, and customers to coordinate field changes and ensure a professional public relationship. What you’ll do Must be able to drive a company-owned vehicle to navigate between multiple active construction sites daily. Knowledge of NESC Standards and vertical clearance regulations to audit aerial fiber placement, sag, and strand tension. Able to communicate professionally to the public, homeowners, and municipal/state officials (like UDOT) regarding property access, permit closures, and pre-construction walkouts. Must be able to manage several different projects at once, coordinating travel and timelines across multiple active underground boring and aerial crews. Inspect work that was done by crews to ensure quality, specifically verifying installations like MSTs, gravel bases, ground rods, and ensuring final surface restorations are left in "original or better" condition. Knowledge of Aerial and underground telecom construction principles, including directional boring, utility separation standards, conduit placement, and hardware orientation. Audit and approve subcontractor daily logs by cross-examining physical field footage, bore tracking, and structure counts (handholes, pedestals, vaults) to eliminate billing discrepancies. Maintain detailed field documentation by tracking path modifications on daily redline prints and organizing GPS/date-stamped photos in shared drives. Enforce a safety-first culture with the commanding authority to mandate immediate work stoppages for unsafe traffic control setups, lack of potholing, or digging without active bluestakes. What you’ll need To be 18 years of age or older. Authorization to work in the United States for this company. High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience (Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering area preferred). Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record. At least three to five years of hands-on experience in telecommunications construction, utility locating, or field inspection. Knowledge of: ○ Aerial or underground utilities, telecom infrastructure, and hardware orientation. ○ OSP facilities, directional boring techniques, conduit depth tracking, and utility separation rules. ○ Easement, right of way (ROW), public utility easement (PUE), and local permit documents. ○ Design blueprints and utility maps, with the skill to accurately plot redline field modifications. Physical abilities & exposures Routinely: Work alone in remote locations, operate vehicle, walk significant distances over uneven/rough terrain, use keyboard and mouse for digital documentation, and work in variable outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow). Frequently: Stand, bend, kneel, and reach to physically measure conduit depths or vault layouts. Exposure to active construction hazards like heavy machinery, dust, and high-noise levels. Occasionally: Climb stairs, stand, and lift or move objects weighing 25–50 pounds (such as heavy vault/handhole lids and traffic control signs).
