What We Can Achieve Together: The Large-Scale Fisheries Global Strategy seeks to transform industrial tuna fisheries into models of sustainability, improved ocean management, and enhanced benefit to humans as a source of protein, prosperity, and livelihood for millions of people. It convenes and collaborates across multiple sectors to meet ambitious conservation and human well-being goals. The Finance Manager serves as a strategic financial and award partner for the Strategy, working closely with the Associate Director and Strategy Coordinator to perform budget planning, tracking, coordinating, and reporting for a large, complex portfolio of initiatives, with a wide array of sources and uses including public and private grants, contracts, and donor-funded activities. The position performs financial planning, reporting, analysis, and transactional services that support the implementation of the Global Large-Scale Fisheries Strategy within TNC’s Provide Food and Water business unit. This includes supporting project needs and aligning financials by award, calendar, and fiscal years with workplans, reporting requirements, and donor commitments, among other things. All work is carried out in accordance with TNC policies, procedures, best practices, and applicable requirements. The role requires a high degree of discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to independently assess issues, recommend solutions and best practices, make informed decisions, and respond to complex financial and operational challenges. The Finance Manager must be able to balance multiple priorities, identify and mitigate risks, and recognize when issues require escalation to leadership. A strong customer-service orientation, commitment to collaboration, and ability to support a geographically dispersed team are essential. This position is part of the Provide Food and Water Finance team, and reports to the Finance Director, Provide Food and Water, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Global Large-Scale Fisheries Strategy team. This is a term-limited position through June 30, 2029 with potential to extend contingent on performance, program needs, and funding. This is a fully remote position. The position can be based in any country where TNC is registered as a nonprofit organization and an established employer. Because of the geographic distribution of other core team members, the role requires being available between 5:00 am – 3:00 pm or 12:00 - 7:00 pm US MT from Monday to Thursday, with more flexible hours on Friday. We’re Looking for You: We are looking for a proactive, solutions-oriented finance professional who can translate complex financial information into clear guidance for conservation leaders, program teams, operations staff, and external partners. The Finance Manager serves as a strategic financial and award partner to the Global Large-Scale Fisheries Strategy, supporting sound resource stewardship, donor compliance, and portfolio-level decision-making. The position leads annual and proposal budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, award management, and fund sequencing across the Strategy. Key responsibilities include uploading approved budgets, monitoring expenditures by funder and reporting period, assessing spending trends and burn rates, developing forecasts, and providing timely recommendations to inform strategic decisions. They help align budgets, workplans, deliverables, reporting schedules, and donor requirements throughout the lifecycle of funded initiatives. Working with strategy, program, operations, and partner teams, the role monitors performance, identifies risks, supports corrective actions, and helps ensure funding is deployed effectively and responsibly. The role supports proposal development, grant budgeting and costing, and award administration in partnership with internal stakeholders and program teams. And maintains the accuracy and integrity of financial information through expense management, contract and grant payment support, reconciliations, and compliance with organizational, donor, and project requirements. The role requires strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment, navigate complex issues, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, global environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate discretion in handling sensitive information and the ability to build collaborative relationships across regions, cultures, and time zones. They will thrive in a dynamic setting and be committed to advancing the success of a globally distributed team. Some travel may be expected to attend team meetings. WHAT YOU WILL BRING Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field and four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with financial systems, relational databases, and financial reporting tools. Technical experience with award accounting, grants, contracts, and applicable donor or government compliance requirements. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working across multicultural, geographically dispersed teams; Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus. Non-profit accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP, restricted funding, and grant compliance preferred. Strong analytical, quantitative, and financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and award management skills, with the ability to organize and interpret complex data into actionable recommendations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience supporting the financial and operational management of complex, multi-year programs, including financial reporting, risk management, coordination of deliverables, and stakeholder engagement. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial audiences. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Advanced degree or professional certification, such as an MBA, CPA, or CFA, preferred. Salary Information: USA and Global This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position in Arlington, VA is generally within the range of $90,300 – $130,815 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range.
