We fill a gap in biodiversity conservation where protection via another existing conservation pathway isn’t possible or suitable. Specifically, we: Facilitate land protection through the transfer of title into safe community-governed not-for-profit ownership structures (local landholding entities) for long-term conservation; Support with identification of viable stewardship pathways; and Provide ongoing governance support to ensure that land is protected according to its intended purpose. About the role We're looking for an experienced Finance & Business Operations Manager who enjoys combining financial management with business operations, governance and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Head of Conservation Engagement & Partnerships, you'll provide leadership across finance and business operations, ensuring our financial systems, governance and internal operations support the organisation's long-term sustainability and growth. This is a broad and rewarding role, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on implementation. You'll work closely with our Executive Team, Board, program staff and external advisers to ensure BioDiversity Legacy remains financially strong, well-governed and equipped to deliver meaningful conservation outcomes. The role is offered part-time and is fully remote (Victoria or New South Wales preferred) with occasional travel to Melbourne and/or other regional areas. Key responsibilities Financial leadership Manage and oversee all aspects of BDL’s Finances and Accounting processes with support from external Bookkeeper. Develop and oversee the organisation’s Budget and financial strategy in line with mission and long-term goals Manage and oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management and payroll process with support of external bookkeeper Developing budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting Preparing monthly financial reports for the Executive and Board Managing financial planning and analysis Overseeing grants, philanthropic income and funding acquittals Coordinating annual audits, supporting end to end process Supporting payroll, accounts payable and receivable (with assistance from an external bookkeeper) Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and reporting Support the administration and reporting of organisational reserves, policies and investments. Business operations Overseeing organisational administration, insurance and business systems Supporting IT systems and operational processes Developing policies and procedures that improve efficiency and accountability Managing external suppliers and service providers Supporting program teams with financial systems and reporting Provide Executive support to the leadership team as required. Ensure business systems are efficient, scalable, and support organisational growth. Governance & compliance Supporting compliance with ACNC, DGR and statutory obligations Maintaining financial controls and organisational risk frameworks Monitoring compliance requirements Supporting workplace health and safety Preparing reports for the Executive and Board on compliance status and emerging risks Develop and lead finance policy and process improvement About you Essential Tertiary qualification in business administration, commerce, accounting, or a related discipline. Strong understanding of financial governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks relevant to charities and not-for-profit organisations. Demonstrated knowledge of financial management and reporting standards applicable in Australia. Right to work in Australia. Experience using Xero Understanding of Australian financial governance and compliance Ability to work independently within a remote team Desirable charities or not-for-profit organisations environmental or conservation organisations grant management and acquittals ACNC compliance Current driver’s licence and capacity to travel regionally and interstate. Additional qualifications or training in bookkeeping, administration or organisational development.
