About the Role
Supporting 500 clinicians across 6 healthcare brands, our client is a rapidly expanding healthcare group seeking a hands-on Financial Accountant. Acting as a key partner to the CFO, you will manage a service-based cost model focused on revenue, margin, and onshore/offshore salary structures. This position offers direct Board exposure, full ownership of month-end reporting and budgeting, and a dedicated technical oversight role across offshore operations.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
Own the month-end close calendar across all group entities, maintaining accuracy while working to optimize and reduce close timelines.
Prepare monthly management accounts for individual entities and the consolidated group, including manual journals.
Provide clear variance commentary against budget and forecast, explaining movements in commercial terms rather than purely accounting language.
Review the monthly balance sheet reconciliation pack, implementing clear ageing and resolution plans for reconciling items.
Prepare board and leadership reporting packs in conjunction with management, and support external audit processes.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis
Coordinate and build annual budgets across all entities, establishing key assumptions with operational leaders.
Maintain rolling financial and cash flow forecasts, highlighting timing risks and working capital pressures early.
Contribute financial modelling and commercial analysis for pricing decisions, new service lines, and structural changes.
Offshore Output Review & Quality Assurance
Perform technical reviews on work delivered by 2 offshore finance team members, covering AP/AR, bank recs, clinician pay runs, onshore payroll support, and GL coding.
Verify transactions are coded consistently against group accounting policies and the chart of accounts across all entities.
Review bank, clearing, and control account reconciliations to ensure reconciling items are genuine and resolved promptly.
Provide constructive, documented feedback and build process notes, checklists, and templates to lift output quality over time.
Note: The offshore team is managed directly by the CFO. This role acts as a technical review function and does not carry line management responsibilities.
Group Policy, Compliance & Controls
Ensure correct and consistent accounting treatment compliant with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and internal policy.
Maintain and update the group chart of accounts and procedure documentation as the business expands.
Selection Criteria
Essential
Education & Qualification: CA or CPA qualified (or currently completing studies), with a relevant degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
Technical Experience: Strong core experience in financial accounting, month-end close, consolidated group reporting, and budgeting/forecasting.
Systems & Excel: Advanced Excel skills (handling large data sets and building multi-entity financial models) and proficiency in Xero.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, with an ability to translate complex financial results for non-finance stakeholders and clinicians.
Mindset: Highly autonomous with a "roll up your sleeves" approach to balance detailed transactional review with high-level reporting.
Desirable
Prior experience in healthcare, allied health, clinical services, or NDIS environments.
Experience working alongside or reviewing output from offshore/outsourced finance teams.
Exposure to multi-entity groups undergoing rapid growth or restructuring.
