Fleet Director, UK&E UK – flexible location with UK travel At Serco, we deliver essential public services that support governments, communities and citizens across the UK. We are now looking for an exceptional Fleet Director to lead this capability across Serco UK&E. Reporting to the Managing Director, Citizen Services: Local & Devolved Government, you will have responsibility for a fleet of more than 5,000 vehicles and accountability for more than 80 colleagues across regulatory licensing and governance, fleet operations, fleet development and supply chain. At the heart of the role is an absolute focus on safety, governance and regulatory compliance. Effective compliance is fundamental to Serco’s ability to operate safely, protect its licences, maintain service continuity and avoid significant financial, operational and reputational risk. Alongside this, you will use data and insight to drive stronger fleet performance, improve utilisation and reliability, optimise cost and ensure the organisation is making informed decisions across its road transport capability. You will also bring specialist transport expertise into major bids and solution design, particularly where fleet or logistics capability can materially strengthen Serco’s proposition. What you’ll be doing • Lead Serco UK&E’s Road Transport and Dangerous Goods strategy. • Hold accountability for governance, assurance and regulatory compliance across road transport, operator licensing and dangerous goods, ensuring effective controls protect Serco’s ability to operate and minimise financial and operational exposure. • Ensure robust audit, risk and assurance processes are maintained and effectively reported. • Lead senior teams across regulatory licensing, fleet operations, fleet development and supply chain. • Use data, KPIs and insight to improve fleet utilisation, maintenance, reliability and overall performance. • Lead fleet strategy across more than 5,000 vehicles, including procurement, leasing, maintenance, lifecycle management and disposal. • Drive commercial performance, efficiency and whole-life cost optimisation. • Lead Serco’s road transport decarbonisation and Net Zero strategy. • Work with growth, bid, commercial and operational teams to shape compliant, deliverable and competitive fleet and logistics solutions for major opportunities. • Represent Serco with key regulators and authorities and provide leadership during significant compliance events or investigations. What you’ll need to do the role • Significant senior leadership running fleet operations within a large and complex business • Deep knowledge of road transport regulation, operator licensing, fleet governance and assurance. • Strong experience of leading compliance, audit, risk and control frameworks, with a clear understanding of the commercial and operational consequences of regulatory failure. • A demonstrable track record of using data and performance insight to improve fleet and operational performance. • Experience leading fleet asset strategies covering procurement, maintenance, utilisation and lifecycle management. • Strong commercial and financial judgement. • Experience leading senior managers and sizeable, geographically dispersed teams. • The credibility to influence senior stakeholders, regulators, customers and operational leaders. • Experience of sustainability, decarbonisation or Net Zero fleet strategies. • Strong understanding of dangerous goods and associated UK regulatory requirements. • Experience contributing fleet, transport or logistics expertise to complex bids or solution design would be advantageous.
