The short version We're a small, fully remote B2B company. We don't have an HR employee so we need a proactive HR generalist who can spend 10-20 hours a month keeping us compliant and supporting the CEO with people-related questions. About us Fully remote team, under 10 full-time employees, concentrated in NY, CA, OK and United Kingdom. We also work with an extensive team of global contractors. What you'll own Multi-state compliance State payroll tax registrations, NY and CA labor law (leave, sick time, pay transparency), required notices, and telling us when a new hire in a new state creates a new obligation. Onboarding and offboarding Offer letters, I-9s, background checks, state-specific new-hire paperwork, and an offboarding checklist (access, final-pay, and documentation for a SOC 2 audit). General HR admin and employee relations Handbook and policy maintenance, benefit selection, managing paid leave. Who this is for We are looking for someone who: Has experience leading HR for a small, remote, multi-state US company—ideally in a startup environment. Is thoughtful and precise. We value advice that is carefully researched and accurate, especially when it comes to compliance. Leads with a clear recommendation and explains the reasoning behind it. Takes a proactive approach. We won’t always know which questions to ask, so we’d love someone who helps us anticipate what’s coming and stay ahead of it. Is responsive within one business day—even if it’s simply, “I’m on it and will have a full answer for you by Thursday.”
