Freelance E-commerce SEO Manager – Shopify

We’re looking for an experienced Freelance E-commerce SEO Manager to work with Superior Hair Extensions on an ongoing monthly retainer.

We are an established e-commerce brand operating across New Zealand, Australia and the United States. We’re looking for an individual freelancer who can take hands-on ownership of our SEO strategy and execution across our NZ/USA Shopify stores.

This is a remote freelance contract, not a full-time employment role and applications from all over the world are welcome.

The role will include

• Developing and managing our SEO strategy across NZ and the USA
• Completing an initial audit of our current Shopify stores
• Identifying technical, on-page, content and authority-building opportunities
• Optimising collection, product and content pages
• Improving internal linking, metadata, headings and site structure
• Reviewing indexing, canonicals, redirects, broken links and duplicate content
• Reviewing schema, Core Web Vitals and other technical SEO concerns
• Conducting keyword and competitor research by market
• Identifying new commercial content and collection-page opportunities
• Monitoring organic revenue, conversions and non-brand search growth
• Providing clear monthly reporting and a prioritised action plan
• Working directly with our internal team and web developer

This is a hands-on role. We are looking for someone who can implement standard SEO changes directly within Shopify, rather than only providing reports and recommendations.

For more complex theme, coding or development work, you will be expected to provide clear instructions and coordinate with our existing web developer.

We’re looking for someone with

• Strong Shopify and e-commerce SEO experience
• Proven experience working with established online retail brands
• Experience managing SEO across multiple countries
• Strong technical and on-page SEO knowledge
• A clear understanding of Google Search Console, GA4 and Shopify reporting
• Experience growing non-brand organic traffic, conversions and revenue
• Strong written communication and a proactive approach
• The ability to explain SEO clearly without unnecessary jargon

Success will be measured through:

• Organic revenue and purchases
• Non-brand organic traffic and clicks
• Growth across priority product categories
• Organic conversion rate
• Technical improvements completed
• Search visibility across NZ and the USA
• Progress against an agreed 30, 60 and 90-day plan

Keyword rankings may form part of the reporting, but they will not be the sole measure of performance.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a paid SEO audit covering:

• Current technical SEO health
• Shopify-specific issues
• Indexing and crawlability
• Site structure and internal linking
• Priority product and collection pages
• Content and keyword opportunities
• Competitor positioning
• Backlink profile
• International SEO considerations
• Immediate priorities
• A proposed 30, 60 and 90-day plan
