Freelance Social Media Associate

Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia. Newsweek is seeking a U. S.-bas ed Social Me dia Freelancer to provide weekend coverage for a three-month assignment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment and enjoys engaging audiences across platforms. The freelancer is expected to complete key deliverables on Saturday and Sundays from 8:00 am ET to 7:00 pm ET to ensure Newsweek’s social presence remains active, timely , and aligned with editorial priorities over the weekend . Key Responsibilities: Content Scheduling & Publishing : Post and manage content across Newsweek’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp, Reddit and LinkedIn). Engagement, referrals and monetization to be driven through creating and scheduling four posts per hour while working closely with the editorial to ensure timely and accurate content. Audience Engagement : Monitor comments and trends; respond appropriately to foster community interaction. Real-Time Coverage : Collaborate with editors to amplify breaking news and trending stories during weekend hours. Analytics & Reporting : Track performance of weekend content and provide insights to the social media team. Increase weekend social referrals and monetization through carefully crafted content that engages with Newsweek’s active readership. Brand Consistency : Ensure all posts reflect Newsweek’s voice, editorial standards, and visual identity. Collaboration : Communicate with editorial and digital teams to align social strategy with newsroom priorities. Requirements: Prior experience managing social media accounts for a brand, publication, or organization. Strong understanding of social platforms, trends, and best practices. Ability to work independently and make quick editorial judgments. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Weekend availability is required.
