Are you a talented Software Engineer, passionate about developing Web applications using state-of-the-art UX/UI technology? Do you enjoy designing scalable back-end systems for communication systems and working on several layers of the software stack? Work with us to develop and evolve CERN's advanced Network and Telecom infrastructure providing automation solutions for its effective management! The Fabric & Communication Systems (FCS) Group is responsible for all aspects of network and telephony provision at CERN. We support a campus network (cabled and Wi-Fi) with over 50,000 connected devices, a 5Tb/s non-blocking switching fabric for a data centre with over 10,000 servers, more than 4,000 switches with 10Gb/s interfaces, and external connections including multiple trans-border 100Gb/s circuits. The FCS group also operates its own VoIP telephony system, dedicated mobile telephony services (6500 subscriptions), a TETRA digital radio system (500 terminals) and a LoRaWAN network. As a member of the Communication Tools (CT) Section in the FCS Group, you will join a team of passionate Software Engineers in charge of the design, development and maintenance of the software suite used to model, configure, support and manage the CERN networks and telecom infrastructures. Your responsibilities: Contribute to the development of CERN's network automation tools, focusing on faster and more flexible IP address provisioning. A key task will be to work on live DHCP updates, allowing DHCP leases to be configured dynamically and enabling near-instant IP address allocation for users and services. Extend IP Address Management support for Layer 2 interfaces, improving how network interfaces, devices and IP resources are modelled and managed. This work will involve back-end development, database modelling, API integration and collaboration with network engineers to deliver reliable features for CERN's production network. Maintain and further develop the IT-FCS Web interfaces used by all CERN users to request network/telephony changes. Together with the other members of the team, participate in the design and development of new modules for the internal IT-FCS network and telecom management framework, such as Technical Network firewall configuration automation/provisioning. Promote and develop DevOps processes and tools to further increase the automation and the quality of the produced software. Propose and implement changes in our database model and network APIs in order to support service integration solutions in the CERN data centers. Stay up to date on latest software technology trends. Your profile: Experience in software development through professional experiences, academic projects, internships, traineeships or personal/open-source projects. Exposure to the development of web applications, including either front-end interfaces, back-end services or both. Some experience working with databases, data models or APIs as part of a software project. Experience working in a team environment, for example through university projects, internships or collaborative development work. Familiarity with software development practices such as version control, testing or continuous integration would be an advantage. Skills: Strong knowledge of Java (25), Spring Boot (4.1), REST, React (19). Highly desired: SQL (Oracle and PL/SQL) and UX/UI design. Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French. Eligibility criteria: You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State . By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science (Software Engineering) (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree . You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Applicants without University degree are not eligible. Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
