About The Role

Our technology team is developing a range of innovative solutions to help accommodation providers optimize the management of their businesses. As Smartness continues to grow, we are investing heavily in our products, platform, and engineering organization to support an increasingly international customer base.

As a Team Leader within our Engineering team, you will combine technical leadership with hands-on software development. This is not a purely managerial role: you will remain actively involved in coding, architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making while supporting a team of engineers in delivering high-quality, impactful solutions.

You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders to transform business needs and customer challenges into scalable software solutions. We are looking for someone with a strong product mindset, able to understand the "why" behind technical decisions, prioritize effectively, and guide the team toward solutions that create real value for users and the business.

You Will Be Responsible For

• Leading and supporting a team of engineers while remaining actively involved in software development and technical delivery.
• Writing production-level code using our core technologies, Node.js and Vue.js, contributing directly to the evolution of our products.
• Driving technical discussions, architecture decisions, and code reviews while promoting high engineering standards.
• Supporting engineers in solving complex technical challenges and improving their technical skills.
• Collaborating closely with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and other teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Managing projects involving multiple stakeholders, evolving requirements, and cross-functional dependencies.
• Driving improvements in software quality, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer experience.
• Promoting a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
• Supporting hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and professional growth of team members.
  
  

What are we looking for?

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in product-driven or SaaS environments.
• 3–5+ years of experience as a Team Lead, Tech Lead, Engineering Lead, or similar technical leadership role.
• Proven ability to lead engineers while remaining hands-on in software development.
• Strong experience with Node.js and backend development in modern web applications.
• Solid experience with Vue.js or other modern frontend frameworks, with the ability and willingness to work within a Vue.js ecosystem.
• Experience designing and maintaining cloud-based products, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, performance, and engineering best practices.
• Experience collaborating closely with Product teams and contributing to technical decisions based on business impact.
• Experience with CI/CD practices, DevOps workflows, and modern software delivery processes.
• Strong code review mindset and ability to provide meaningful technical guidance.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
• A pragmatic approach to balancing delivery speed, technical quality, and long-term sustainability.

Candidates with solid professional experience but limited exposure to this specific role typically join with an annual OTE starting from €45,000 across Europe, while candidates with significant relevant experience may receive compensation of up to €75,000, depending on their expertise, scope of responsibilities, and expected impact - also, you have the opportunity to receive equity, aligning your success with the long-term growth of the company.
