The Opportunity

KPIT is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to support the development of safety-critical automotive software for global mobility programs.


In this role, you will drive Functional Safety activities throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262, with a strong emphasis on Part 6 (Product Development at the Software Level). You will collaborate with software, systems, and validation teams developing safety-critical automotive applications, supporting Functional Safety activities across Model-Based Development (MBD), Embedded C implementation, and software verification and validation processes. Your focus will be to ensure that safety requirements are properly defined, implemented, and verified throughout the development lifecycle.


This position is ideal for professionals with a strong Functional Safety background and experience supporting safety-critical software development, including Embedded C implementation and software verification and validation activities for automotive ECUs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Functional Safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262, with a focus on software development.
  • Conduct HARA and support Safety Goal definition.
  • Develop and manage FSR, TSR, and SSR documentation.
  • Support safety architecture and ASIL decomposition activities.
  • Partner with software development teams leveraging MBD and MATLAB/Simulink environments.
  • Ensure safety requirements are effectively implemented, verified, and validated.
  • Perform safety analyses, including FMEA, DFMEA, and FTA.
  • Participate in technical reviews, assessments, audits, and customer interactions.


What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of automotive industry experience.
  • Hands-on Functional Safety experience with ISO 26262, including Part 6 (Software Development).
  • Experience with HARA, Safety Goals, FSR, TSR, and SSR development.
  • Experience working with safety-critical software for automotive ECUs.
  • Experience working in Model-Based Development (MBD) environments using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Understanding of Embedded C development, software verification, and validation activities.
  • Familiarity with ASIL classifications and automotive V-Cycle processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Advanced English skills.


Nice to Have

  • AUTOSAR experience.
  • RTW, TargetLink, or Auto Code Generation experience.
  • Knowledge of ASPICE.
  • Experience with MIL, SIL, and HIL testing.
  • Experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
