MAiDHouse – General Volunteer Opportunity
MAiDHouse is seeking people interested in becoming volunteers to support our organization’s operations in diverse capacities ranging from research to project planning and implementation to administrative support and more. Volunteers will be placed according to the skillsets they bring to the organization as well as their areas of interest. About MAiDHouse
MAiDHouse is a project of Assisted-Dying Resource Centres Canada (ARCC), a Canadian not-for-profit corporation and registered charity in Toronto, Canada. The MAiDHouse mission is to provide a comfortable and compassionate end-of-life experience (a “good death”) to persons eligible to receive medical assistance in dying (MAiD), where home, for a variety of reasons, is not an option.
MAiDHouse Volunteer Objectives
MAiDHouse is currently seeking people interested in becoming volunteers with our organization. We are looking for people who are interested in making a difference in equitable access to healthcare, quality, and choice of end-of-life care, and would like to support our organization in enhancing the end-of-life experience for those who access our space and resources.
These Volunteer Positions Offer a Unique Opportunity To:
- Participate in a dynamic and an important community resource
- Enhance the end-of-life experience for those eligible for MAiD and the people supporting them
- Provide emotional, logistical, and administrative support for those accessing MAiD, their supporters, and MAiDHouse team members
This is a great opportunity for someone with a flexible schedule who has excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to serve their community at both a local and national level.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary depending on volunteer position and strengths, but may include:
- Project committee participation
- Event planning and coordination
- Aiding in research conducted by MAiDHouse and community partners
- Administrative support
- Support with planning for the day of MAiD provision.
- Assisting those eligible for MAiD and those supporting them on the day of provision and follow up after the booking in the areas of:
- Coordination and Administration
- Social/Emotional Support
- Resource Connection
- Participating in evaluations and other quality assurance activities.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn or build skills in not-for-profit end-of-life support; experience a definite asset.
- Passion for supporting the rights of Canadians to end-of-life choice, including but not limited to access to MAiD, with a strong commitment to the mission and values of MAiDHouse.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate a variety of different activities.
- A basic understanding of death, dying, grief and bereavement, and awareness of how one’s own experience might influence that understanding.
- Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and person-centred care.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to establish boundaries, self reflect, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to synthesize diverse sources of information.
- Excellent administration skills.
- Previous end-of-life work or volunteer experience is an asset.
