Job Title: GIS Technician – Electric Distribution Network Job Description This role focuses on performing routine GIS database and map updates for electric distribution networks using ArcGIS/ArcPro and Schneider Electric’s ArcFM software. You will work as part of a collaborative utility GIS team, supporting accurate mapping of electric assets and contributing to data quality, work order processing, and research activities in a fully remote environment. Responsibilities Perform routine GIS database and map updates for the electric distribution network using ArcGIS/ArcPro and Schneider Electric’s ArcFM software. Edit, maintain, and validate electric utility mapping data to ensure accuracy and consistency with client standards. Learn and understand all tasks on the project, including work order processing, data cleanup, and following up on data inquiries. Implement client model specifications and procedural changes as needed, ensuring all updates align with project requirements. Analyze CAD drawings, various types of maps, and client databases to research and verify electric network information. Identify and interpret electric utility equipment on structures such as telephone poles, including conductors, transformers, cables, and anchors. Track all inquiries and work performed using client spreadsheets, databases, or applications to maintain clear records and audit trails. Communicate effectively with GIS teammates and utility employees from other departments to resolve issues and clarify data requirements. Use multiple resources to investigate and solve mapping and data-related problems, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exercise initiative and sound judgment while working independently within established processes and guidelines. Participate in virtual team meetings and conference calls to coordinate work, share updates, and support project objectives. Essential Skills Experience with utility mapping and GIS, specifically supporting electric distribution networks. Experience with electric networks, including familiarity with electric utility equipment such as conductors, transformers, cables, and anchors. Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS 10.8.1 or newer. Ability to perform GIS editing and data maintenance using ArcGIS/ArcPro and Schneider Electric’s ArcFM software. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with GIS teammates and utility staff from other departments. Ability to use multiple resources to research and solve mapping and data issues. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and work independently. Ability to analyze CAD drawings, various types of maps, and client databases for research and verification. Ability to accurately track work and inquiries in spreadsheets, databases, or applications. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Pro (ArcPro). Familiarity with Schneider Electric ArcFM. Familiarity with Smallworld or similar utility GIS platforms. Exposure to electric utility operations and terminology. Interest in developing GIS skills and growing within a long-term utility GIS project. Work Environment This is a fully remote position. You will work from a home office and collaborate virtually with a direct manager and a GIS team through online meetings and conference calls. All necessary computer equipment, including a computer, monitor, and related tools, will be provided to support your work. The role involves extensive use of ArcGIS/ArcPro, ArcFM, spreadsheets, databases, and client applications in a structured yet busy project environment, offering long-term stability and opportunities to learn and develop your GIS skills. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
