Job Title: REMOTE GIS Technician – Electric Distribution Network Job Description This role focuses on performing routine GIS database and map updates for an electric distribution network using Esri ArcGIS and Schneider Electric’s ArcFM software. You will work as part of a collaborative virtual team, partnering closely with utility GIS staff and other utility departments to maintain accurate, detailed mapping of distribution equipment and assets. Responsibilities Perform routine GIS database updates and map maintenance for the electric distribution network using ArcGIS/ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and related tools. Edit and maintain GIS data in accordance with established standards using Schneider Electric’s ArcFM software and other client-specific applications. Interpret and analyze CAD drawings, various types of maps, and client databases to research and validate electric network information. Capture and maintain detailed attributes for electric distribution equipment on utility poles, such as conductors, transformers, cables, anchors, and related assets, within the GIS. Learn and understand all tasks on the project, including work order processing, data cleanup activities, and responding to data inquiries. Implement client model specifications in the GIS environment and apply procedural changes as needed to maintain data quality and consistency. Track and document all inquiries, edits, and work performed using client spreadsheets, databases, or applications. Communicate effectively with GIS teammates and utility employees from other departments to clarify data questions and resolve issues. Use multiple resources and references to research, troubleshoot, and solve GIS and data-related problems. Exercise initiative and sound judgment while working independently to meet deadlines and deliver accurate, high-quality GIS data updates. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS 10.8.1 or newer for GIS editing and mapping. Experience with electric networks and utility mapping, specifically electric distribution systems. Ability to identify and understand electric utility equipment on distribution or telephone poles, including conductors, transformers, cables, anchors, and related components. Strong analytical skills to interpret CAD drawings, maps, and client databases for research and data validation. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, work orders, and data cleanup activities efficiently. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to use multiple resources to resolve data and mapping issues. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and work independently in a remote setting. Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with GIS teammates and utility staff from other departments. Ability to learn and apply client model specifications, project procedures, and process changes. Proficiency in tracking work and inquiries using spreadsheets, databases, or client-specific applications. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro (ArcPro) is a strong plus. Familiarity with Schneider Electric ArcFM is highly desirable. Experience with GE Smallworld or similar utility GIS platforms is beneficial. Prior experience working in a utility GIS environment, especially with electric distribution networks, is an advantage. Exposure to data cleanup projects and work order processing in a GIS context. Interest in long-term skill development and growth within GIS and utility mapping. Work Environment This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from a dedicated home office.
