Global Financial Controller
📍 Location: Remote (United States), with regular international travel | Reporting to: Group CFO
WHO IS ROOK BRISTOL
Rook Bristol is a cross-border lending group providing structured capital to high-growth businesses across the UK, United States, Canada and Australia. We originate, underwrite and deploy credit with precision — backing businesses that have been vetted, structured and approved through our servicing partners. Our edge is discipline: rigorous credit standards, clean structures and capital that performs.
We don't chase volume. We back quality.
OUR MISSION
To deploy institutional-grade capital into underserved lending markets — with the rigour of a credit investor and the speed of a modern lender.
Smarter Capital. Faster Decisions. Built for Business.
THE PERFECT FIT
We operate at the intersection of institutional lending and international finance. The standards are high and the work is consequential. This is a hands-on seat: you'll be as comfortable closing the books yourself as you are presenting to an auditor. If you are energised by complexity, precision and the discipline of cross-border credit operations — and you genuinely want to do the work, not just direct it — you will thrive here.
To succeed, you'll need:
- Deep technical financial control capability, with the credibility to own the numbers across multiple jurisdictions
- A career built through accounting and financial control — not one spent solely in FP&A, Treasury or Investor Relations
- Meaningful experience in lending, financial services or fintech — ideally a mix of both
- Real operating experience inside a scaling business, alongside (not instead of) any Big 4 or institutional banking background
- The rigour to build and maintain controls that hold up under regulatory and audit scrutiny
- A genuine willingness to do the detailed work yourself, not just direct others who do
- The presence to represent the finance function to external counterparties, auditors and regulators
- Resilience and composure in a high-standards, fast-moving environment
- The ability to travel internationally and engage substantively with teams across multiple geographies
THE ROLE
The Global Financial Controller will play a critical role in scaling Rook's international finance function as the business continues to expand across existing and new markets. Reporting to the Group CFO, you will own financial control, consolidation and reporting across the Group — working closely with finance teams and servicing partners across the UK, Canada and Australia, and building out Rook's own US finance operation.
This is a hands-on role with significant operational responsibility. While local finance teams and servicing partners manage day-to-day activity within their markets, you will be accountable for ensuring outputs are accurate, controls are robust, and reporting is consistent Group-wide. You will be expected to understand the detail, challenge where necessary, and personally step into operational work when required — this is a role for someone who wants to do the doing, not just direct it.
You will lead the Group consolidation process, support foreign exchange management, and help ensure local entities remain compliant with relevant accounting standards, tax requirements and statutory filing obligations.
This position is remote (US-based), with regular international travel to build relationships, support local teams and maintain a strong understanding of operations across the Group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own financial control and consolidation across Rook's entities, ensuring clean, accurate and timely Group-level reporting.
- Maintain and enhance the Group's financial control framework — controls, reconciliations and governance processes across all entities.
- Own management reporting — accurate, timely and consistent across the Group, giving clear visibility of financial performance.
- Lead statutory reporting, audits, local filings and tax compliance activities, working closely with local teams, servicing partners and external advisors.
- Manage the Group consolidation process end-to-end, ensuring financial information is accurately reported at both local and consolidated levels.
- Support foreign exchange management, intercompany accounting and multi-currency reporting across the Group.
- Ensure accounting policies and reporting standards are consistently applied across all jurisdictions.
- Partner with finance teams across our Third Party Servicers (Elect Capital UK, Elect Capital Inc, Elect Capital Pty) to improve processes, strengthen controls and drive operational efficiency.
- Support finance workstreams for new market launches — entity setup, banking, local compliance, tax registrations and reporting frameworks.
- Act as a key partner to the Group CFO on finance transformation, reporting improvements and strategic projects.
- Build scalable finance infrastructure capable of supporting rapid international growth.
- Work directly with external advisors, auditors, tax specialists and banking partners.
- Personally perform detailed accounting and control work where needed, especially in this role's early phase.
- Travel regularly to Rook/Elect offices and operating locations across the UK, Canada, Australia and future markets.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 6+ years of experience in finance, accounting or financial control roles
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) required
- A career built primarily through accounting and financial control — the close, statutory accounts, controls — rather than FP&A, Treasury or Investor Relations
- Real experience consolidating financials across more than one legal entity or jurisdiction
- Background in lending, financial services or fintech — ideally some combination of both
- Operating-company experience inside a smaller or scaling business, in addition to any Big 4 or large institutional background
- Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment where leadership and execution are equally important
- Strong understanding of international accounting principles and cross-border finance operations
- Experience managing audits, tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to challenge assumptions and drive decisions through data
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular basis
OUR OFFER
- A high-impact finance role in a fast-scaling international fintech
- The opportunity to own and build Rook's Group financial control function across multiple continents
- Direct partnership with the Group CFO
