L5, Remote US, Canada Full-time ROLE SUMMARY Partnership on AI (PAI) is seeking a Global Government Engagement Lead to drive the organization’s government engagement portfolio. This Lead will join PAI’s expanding public policy department, reporting to the Senior Managing Director of Public Policy. AI policy continues to develop in a variety of forms globally, including through an evolving regulatory landscape, the emergence of newly formed institutions and new roles being explored by traditional multilateral bodies (e.g. the UN and OECD). These developments are taking place alongside the release of a number of AI tools and voluntary frameworks developed by industry, civil society and academia. Against this backdrop, the Partnership on AI plays an important role in working to ensure that both AI technologies and the policies used to govern them benefit and protect people and society. The Global Government Engagement Lead will work to inform global public policy, advance public understanding, and ensure the adoption of best practices by PAI partners, wider AI stakeholders and government to support the design, development and deployment of equitable and responsible AI systems. The role will work closely with global policy officials and international, multilateral organizations. Internally and across the PAI community you will work with PAI's departments, PAI partners and stakeholders, including senior policy leaders from Partner organizations in industry, civil society, and academia. WHAT YOU’LL DO 1. Build and lead Government & Institutional Relationships Develop tailored engagement strategies for priority jurisdictions and institutions, mapping key stakeholders and assessing each government's focus areas, priorities, and gaps, in consultation with the Senior Managing Director of Public Policy. Identify new government partners and deepen existing relationships, including supporting PAI's representation within bodies such as the OECD Recommend thematic priorities for each jurisdiction, grounded in PAI's programmatic work and shaped through consultation with teams like Programs & Research. Working with the Senior Managing Director of Public Policy, scope out opportunities to formalize collaboration with government entities, developing MoU proposals for review and execution by PAI Legal. Represent PAI in international and jurisdiction-specific policy discussions, and organize multi-stakeholder convenings with policymakers and PAI Partners. Deliverables include engagement plans per jurisdiction/institution, and draft MOUs where appropriate. 2. Evidence Submissions & Policy Input Lead PAI's submissions to government calls for evidence, drawing on PAI's programmatic research and analysis to meet tight deadlines. Work across PAI teams to translate research and data into clear, credible public policy positions and short, briefing documents. Design and deliver listening sessions and convenings that gather and share evidence directly with policymakers. 3. Drive Strategy for Global Government Events & Convenings Working with the Senior Managing Director of Public Policy, our Managing Director International and Partnership/Program teams, support PAI's engagement strategy for major government events, summits, and multilateral fora, working with the events team, programmatic leads, and the Policy Steering Committee. Design convenings (e.g. roundtables) that advance PAI's organizational strategic goals, and lead the summary documents and position papers that follow. For each external event, produce an engagement strategy and preparation package, including: Talking points and key messaging for PAI staff A prioritized list of bilateral meetings Meeting scheduling and stakeholder coordination A plan that connects PAI's existing priorities to the event's opportunities, so participation is purposeful and impactful. Data entry: Lead on tracking, metrics and reporting related to all PAI Policy convenings and government engagement, working with our Manager, Data and Impact Systems and Operations team 4. Prepare Briefing Materials for PAI Leadership Draft briefing books for PAI's CEO and senior leadership ahead of major engagements with government leaders (e.g. bilateral meetings in Washington, DC), working with PAI teams to identify and prioritize which engagements warrant a briefing. Provide verbal briefings and accompany senior leaders on government engagements in the US and internationally, to ensure successful positioning, preparation and support. Include recommended lines to take, relevant stakeholder and situational background, and clear strategic objectives for each meeting, incorporating input from across the organization. 5. Track and Share Global Policy Developments Monitor developments in key jurisdictions and manage an updated tracking mechanism to share orgwide internally in order to build knowledge of policy domain and align PAI interventions to key milestones and windows of policy impact Monitor, interpret, and analyze policy developments worldwide, including legislative texts and international AI policies and frameworks. Contribute to tools and processes that help PAI track these developments systematically. Keep the broader organization informed through regular updates. 6. Connect Policy Work Across PAI Brief teams across the organization ahead of key policy events, ensuring policy and legal considerations are built in from the start. Partner with Programs & Research, Partnerships & Philanthropy, and Communications to connect PAI's work with relevant policy stakeholders and opportunities. WHO YOU ARE / WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Masters degree or higher in related discipline or equivalent (7+ years) work experience required Significant experience in government relations, public policy, or international affairs, ideally with some exposure to technology or AI policy. A track record of building relationships with senior government and multilateral stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. Strong writing skills, with experience producing briefing materials, evidence submissions, or position papers for senior audiences. Comfort managing multiple concurrent workstreams against tight external deadlines. Willingness and ability to travel internationally for government meetings and events. Experience working in or with multi-stakeholder, non-profit, or mission-driven organizations is a plus. Stakeholder management skills to build strong relationships, comfortable with managing conflicting opinions and priorities and delivering through others. A strong team player and project manager, who is able to work across the organization, build stakeholder engagement/tracking processes and coordinate between teams when designing and delivering work. An analytical and strategic thinker, able to spot trends, and bring these together with critical facts or statistics in briefs, memos, position papers, presentations, etc. Strong understanding of political sensitivities in order to identify key issues/risks before they arise.
