We're expanding our push to catalyze the Zero Hunger Formula — our research-backed, data-driven path to ending world hunger, in partnership with OpenAg.ai — with new funding, a growing research initiative, and a forthcoming book. We're looking for a sharp, self-directed grant writer to build the funder pipeline and secure funding for this work.

World Food Bank Foundation combines emergency disaster relief with long-term food security work: buying surplus crops from farmers to create fortified meals for schoolchildren and disaster survivors, partnering with universities on regional agricultural practices, and running nutrition-focused media campaigns across East Africa and the U.S. We're a small, fast-moving team, and we're piloting an AI-assisted platform to optimize grant writing to enhance efficiency.

This is a new position, created specifically to build out our funder pipeline and proposal process using our AI-assisted grant writing platform — and to support our expanded effort to catalyze and leverage the Zero Hunger Formula, including its research initiative and upcoming book launch. Twelve months from now, success looks like: a qualified pipeline of foundation, corporate, and family-office prospects, funding secured toward the Zero Hunger Formula's research and book launch, a track record of letters of inquiry and full proposals submitted, and a clear read — based on what you've built — on how this role should grow. How it evolves depends directly on what you accomplish in it.

• Research and maintain a pipeline of foundation, corporate, and family-office funders aligned with our focus areas — food security, disaster response, regenerative agriculture, AI, and veteran support

• Draft grant proposals and letters of inquiry using our AI-assisted writing platform, then edit the output into something we're proud to submit

• Research and pursue funding specifically to support the Zero Hunger Formula's research initiative and its upcoming book launch

• Track deadlines, requirements, and application status in a shared pipeline so nothing is missed

• Coordinate with foundation leadership to gather the program details, research findings, and outcomes each proposal needs

• Work directly with leadership to pressure-test and refine how we use AI tools in grant writing

• Flag what's working and what isn't — your read on this will directly shape how the role grows

Required

• Experience with grant writing or funder/prospect research (professional, volunteer, or coursework-based)

• Strong, clean writing and comfort using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) as a drafting aid you then edit hard, not a substitute for editing

• Able to commit 10–15 hours a week for a minimum of three months

• Comfortable working independently on a small, resource-constrained team where priorities shift

• Genuine interest in food security, disaster relief, or humanitarian work

Preferred

• Prior nonprofit, foundation-relations, or fundraising experience

• Familiarity with prospect research tools or grant databases

• Experience supporting research projects, white papers, or book/publishing efforts

• A track record of proposals that were actually funded

• A portfolio or writing samples you can share

This role is unpaid at the volunteer stage. If the platform gains funding traction, we plan to convert it to a paid part-time or full-time position within six months.
