The Grants Manager is responsible for securing at least $300,000 in annual grant funding to support ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation’s programs and services. This role oversees all aspects of the grants lifecycle—including prospect research, proposal development, submission, reporting, compliance, and stewardship. In partnership with the Director of Philanthropy and Executive Director, the Grants Manager identifies new opportunities to support ASK’s statewide growth while strengthening engagement and retention of existing funders. The position serves as ASK’s primary point of contact for corporate and private foundations across Virginia, as well as regional businesses, civic organizations, and funders outside of Richmond and specifically in western Virginia. This role is instrumental in sustaining and expanding philanthropic partnerships that make life better for children with cancer and their families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Grant Prospecting and Strategy Research, identify, and qualify new foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities that align with ASK’s mission and strategic priorities. Build and maintain a comprehensive statewide grants pipeline to support regional and programmatic expansion. Develop and manage an annual grants calendar that ensures timely submission of proposals, renewals, and required reports. Collaborate with Development and Program teams to align funding needs with measurable outcomes and organizational goals. 2. Grant Writing and Management Prepare compelling, accurate, and data-informed proposals, letters of inquiry, budgets, and impact reports. Work closely with program and finance teams to gather data, stories, and budget elements to strengthen submissions. Monitor active grants to ensure full compliance with funder requirements, deliverables, budgets, and reporting deadlines. Maintain detailed and accurate grant records within ASK’s systems, ensuring internal communication around grant status and deadlines. 3. Funder Stewardship and Relationship Management Serve as the primary liaison for foundation, corporate, and civic funders statewide. Cultivate and maintain strong funder relationships through ongoing communication, updates, site visits, recognition, and personalized stewardship. Partner with ASK senior leadership to support funder engagement opportunities and highlight grant-funded impact. Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure consistent messaging and visibility for grant-supported initiatives. Represent ASK at community and professional events, such as Chamber of Commerce meetings, Business Coalition gatherings, AFP functions, check presentations, and other networking opportunities, to strengthen visibility and grow ASK’s funder network. Performance Expectations and Key Metrics (KPIs) 1. Pipeline Development & Submission Management Submit 5-8 new proposals annually, in addition to renewal requests. Maintain a pipeline valued at 3–4x the annual revenue goal to ensure sustainability. Ensure 100% on-time submission of all LOIs, proposals, budgets, and required reports, contingent upon receiving complete and timely information from all relevant departments (e.g., budgets, outcomes, measures, and program data). Add 1–2 new qualified prospects per month into the active pipeline. 2. Compliance & Reporting Ensure 100% compliance with all funder requirements, deliverables, and deadlines. Achieve zero returned or revised funder reports due to incomplete or inaccurate information. 3. Operational Excellence Maintain an accurate, up-to-date grants calendar with all deadlines and deliverables. Update or refine standardized proposal language and templates annually. 4. Revenue & Portfolio Growth Secure a minimum of $300,000 annually from foundation, corporate, and civic grantmakers. Demonstrate year-over-year growth in grant revenue and/or number of funders.
