Coalition Coordinator Role Immigrant Justice Coalition The Position + Organizations The Michigan Immigrant Justice Coalition (MIJC) is a newly formed coalition of multiple organizations invested in safeguarding immigrant communities. The purpose of the coalition is to create durable opportunities for coordination, sharing and advocacy and communication across organizations committed to immigrant justice and to drive partners to existing spaces for concrete action, legal updates and analysis on immigrant justice issues. This growing coalition is currently composed of representatives from multiple organizations invested in immigrant justice. Coalition partners include: African Bureau for Immigration and Social Affairs (ABISA), ACLU of Michigan, Detroit Disability Power, Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC), Michigan League for Public Policy (MLPP), Miigwech Inc., MI Poder, National Network of Arab American Communities, and Rising Voices. The MIJC is seeking a contractual Coalition Coordinator who can help to coordinate coalition meetings and project-manage coalition efforts. Together we will build, support and amplify an expansive tent of allies to fight back against attacks on our immigrant communities statewide. The Coalition Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the projects of the coalition are effective and efficient, contributing to its ability to achieve its goals and make a positive impact. The primary responsibility of this role is to work with the steering committee members to drive coalition initiatives forward, facilitate strategic decision-making by partner organizations, and ensure accountability in advancing the coalition's collective goals and campaigns. The contractor will focus on the following key areas: Project management of coalition efforts and ensuring progress toward goals, including mobilizing member organizations to advance the collective work of the coalition and helping to expand the coalition if/when necessary; Data collection and analysis for reporting and strategic planning purposes; and Administrative tasks related to convening bi-weeklly steering committee meetings and working group meetings. Responsibilities : Driving coalition initiatives forward by facilitating steering committee meetings, developing agendas, mobilizing coalition members around shared objectives, and maintaining accountability through regular progress monitoring and strategic follow-up. Providing accessible communication and logistical support for all coalition activities, including scheduling and setting up virtual meetings, planning occasional in-person events, sending notifications and reminders of activities, etc. Providing project leadership and management to ensure the coalition is an effective decision making body. Developing work plans with coalition working groups, establishing clear decision points and timelines. Assigning tasks, managing and holding accountable coalition members; Working with coalition partners between steering committee and working group meetings to ensure collective work is moving forward. This includes calling and emailing partners, working asynchronously on documents, and other necessary communication to ensure progress is made. Connecting strategic dots across working groups to ensure alignment and identify collaboration opportunities. Proactively identifying opportunities and obstacles to advance coalition goals and facilitate strategic problem-solving. Providing follow-up and accountability support to partner organizations, including checking in with participants who have disengaged, and ensuring follow-through on commitments Coordinating cross-training initiatives and knowledge sharing across the coalition Coordinating the recording and maintenance of notes and other documentation of coalition meetings and activities. Convening regular meetings with project leadership and providing written reports to project leadership and key stakeholders. Compiling data and regular reports describing coalition efforts, including for grant reports Assisting with special projects as directed, and other duties as assigned. Experience + Qualifications: The Coalition Coordinator will have experience in meeting facilitation, community organizing, campaigns, and project management. Desired Qualifications, Skills & Experience Education and/or experience in coalition building, community organizing, campaign coordination, or related fields appropriate for fulfilling the leadership responsibilities of the position. Track record of moving groups from planning to implementation and measurable outcomes. Demonstrated commitment to the civil & human rights of all people and the ability to work with individuals with a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences; previous experience in immigration rights & justice efforts a bonus Effective communication skills, including skills in presenting and communicating in virtual settings and in-person. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify strategic opportunities, and proactively move collaborative efforts forward. Ability to think creatively, build trust, bring individuals together to meet coalition goals and drive collective action. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to respond in a professional, non-judgmental manner to emotionally and politically charged issues and the like. Ability to work independently, take initiative without constant direction, and consistently meet deadlines while driving progress on assigned tasks. Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation. Proficient in technology including cloud based software. CONTRACT DETAILS: The Coalition Coordinator is a contracted position requiring approximately 50-60 hours per month. This is a primarily remote role that may involve occasional in-person work. MI Poder will manage this contract, in collaboration with key coalition leaders. The target start date for this role is October 19 . COMPENSATION: The contractor will receive $5,000/mo; $60,000 over the 1-year term of the contract. There is a possibility for this time frame to extend if additional resources are secured.
