POSITION SUMMARY: The Stanford Digital Economy Lab is seeking an Economic Data Analyst to perform complex technical and analytical work supporting Indicators , the Lab’s public-facing platform for measuring the economic impact of artificial intelligence. Reporting to the Research Manager for Indicators, this position will query and integrate structured economic and labor-market data, independently produce standard and custom reports, devise methods for identifying patterns and trends, build non-routine analytical databases, and create publication-ready metrics and visualizations with minimal supervision. The Economic Data Analyst will clean, validate, integrate, and document data from sources including ADP, the U.S. Census Bureau, job-posting providers, government agencies, surveys, and public repositories. The analyst will create analysis-ready relational tables, longitudinal datasets, derived indicators, data dictionaries, quality-control summaries, reports, charts, dashboards, and approved data extracts. The position will also develop and evaluate algorithms and statistical models related to AI adoption and exposure, employment, wages, occupations, industries, and skills demand; recommend improvements to data collection and reporting; respond to non-routine analytical and survey requests; implement data standards and common metric definitions; and test prototype pipelines, APIs, calculations, database changes, and visualizations for release readiness. The successful candidate will work closely with economists, faculty, research scientists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate research assistants, data providers, engineers, designers, communications teams, and other Stanford partners. The role requires strong technical judgment, careful documentation, and the ability to translate complex findings into trustworthy information for academic, policy, industry, media, and public audiences. This fixed-term position (3 years, renewable) PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience, in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, computer science, data science, or engineering. • Strong SQL and Python skills; experience with R, cloud environments such as Google Cloud, Git-based version control, APIs, and visualization or business-intelligence tools is preferred. • Experience working with large economic or labor-market datasets, including restricted, licensed, or confidential data. • Knowledge of econometrics, data analysis, data visualization, reproducible research, and artificial intelligence measurement. • Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and oral communication skills; ability to complete detailed work accurately under deadlines with minimal supervision. • Creative, independent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with researchers and technical partners from diverse backgrounds. Core Duties : Evaluate and develop new or modifications of usable data from complex data sources. Assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs, and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. Devise methods for identifying patterns and trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Determine and recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements. Design and customize reports based on data in the database. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management, and other internal end-users. Create non-routine databases and generate related information summaries. Perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements. Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys. Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection. Collaborate with technical staff to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics. May test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree. Minimum Experience: Three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software. Demonstrated ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases. Intermediate statistical ability. Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible, and rigorous attention to detail. Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question. Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity. Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements. Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers. Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.
