Job Description Position Summary Working under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Equity, the Institutional Equity and Title VI Coordinator plays a key leadership role in advancing the College’s efforts to prevent and respond to discrimination based on race, color, and national origin, including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics, in accordance with Title VI and the College’s nondiscrimination policies. The Institutional Equity and Title VI Coordinator leads implementation of the College’s Title VI compliance program, including policy development and review, intake and coordination of reports, and management of response and resolution processes. The Coordinator partners with campus stakeholders to support training and education initiatives, conducts data analysis, and prepares reports to monitor trends and support institutional accountability. Responsibilities Receive and assess reports from complainants, third-party, and mandated reporters; determine appropriate next steps and maintain compliance with institutional requirements while maintaining neutrality and accurate documentation. Conduct intake meetings with students, faculty, and staff (complainants and respondents) to gather information and provide clear, consistent information on rights, reporting options, available resources, and applicable policies and procedures. Coordinate supportive measures and oversee prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations and resolution (informal and administrative) of alleged discrimination and harassment based on perceived or protected characteristics. Represent the Office of Institutional Equity on college committees and regularly meet with campus partners to share data-informed insights, strengthen coordination, and support a cohesive, institution-wide approach to addressing campus climate concerns and advancing equitable practices in alignment with Title VI responsibilities. Lead the development and delivery of online and in-person training for students, faculty, and staff to ensure awareness of rights, responsibilities, and reporting processes under Title VI. Designs and facilitates programs and initiatives that promote anti-discrimination awareness, prevention, and a respectful campus environment, in collaboration with campus partners. Produce quarterly and annual reports that analyze climate survey data and track patterns to identify emerging concerns, particularly those related to race, color, and national origin, including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics, to inform decision-making as well as proactive and responsive institutional strategies. Required knowledge, skills and abilities Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, higher education administration, or other relevant discipline in higher education or other related settings. Advanced expertise in Title VI compliance and enforcement, including protections related to race, color, and national origin (including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics), supported by working knowledge of Title VII, Title IX, the ADA, Section 504, and applicable state laws, and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or civil rights compliance, leading complaint intake, assessment, investigations, and resolution of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation matters, while effectively managing multiple complex cases. Demonstrated ability to support parties through complex and sensitive resolution processes with a commitment to fairness, impartiality, and cultural awareness, along with proven ability to manage sensitive matters with sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, and to build trust while navigating high-intensity conversations with composure. Extensive experience managing case management systems, including documentation, tracking, and compliance reporting, paired with strong analytical skills to identify patterns, assess risk, and translate data into actionable insights that guide institutional decision-making and compliance efforts. Extensive experience in educational settings leading the development and delivery of engaging, prevention-focused training programs for students, faculty, and staff, including strategic program design, facilitation of workshops, and evaluation of outcomes to enhance awareness, support compliance efforts, and promote a culture of inclusion, safety, and accountability. Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in law, social work, psychology, higher education administration, or a related field relevant to civil rights compliance and student support. Prior experience working with Maxient to coordinate case management. Relevant training or certification in investigations or informal resolution, or the ability to obtain such certification within 60 days of employment. Compensation The compensation for this position is $78,900 - $86,000 (USD) per year. When extending an offer, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, budget, and other market and organizational considerations. The starting salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
