Our agency licenses insurance agents, adjusters, bail bondsmen and more, along with investigating fraud matters involving insurance consumers and any entity or individual regulated by the Department. Description of Work Insurance Regulatory Analyst I - 60013618 Salary Recruitment Range - $60,881-$65,000 Salary Grade - NC 17 The posting will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the closing date. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and up to one remote workday per week. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management The primary purpose of the position is to examine L&H insurers that offer life coverage, and accident and health coverage through the examination of underwriting practices and claims records. This position may be required to conduct the examinations on-site at the company’s offices. As such, the examiner may be required to travel. Responsibilities include: -Become familiar with the targeted areas for each examination and assist with preparation, random sampling, and travel arrangements as needed. Clearly communicate findings and concerns to the Examiner-in-Charge and company personnel, and summarize those findings in a clear, concise manner. Ensure reports are technically and grammatically accurate, complete all sign‑off procedures, and document work papers in TeamMate in a timely and accurate way. Administrative responsibilities such as written leave requests, weekly FIORI entries, and expense reports should be completed accurately and submitted on time. -Support the team by demonstrating extra effort, promoting cohesiveness, and seeking assignments outside your primary area to broaden your knowledge. Offer suggestions to improve examination efficiency and participate in calls, webinars, seminars, and other management‑directed activities, including those sponsored by the NAIC. Assist with market analysis investigations, reviews of self‑critical analyses, and other assigned activities. Provide detailed bi‑weekly updates to your supervisor and represent the Section, Division, and Department positively in all professional interactions. Continuously pursue opportunities for personal development, training, and independent research to strengthen your technical skills. -Exhibit strong knowledge and proper use of Department of Insurance and NAIC regulations, as well as relevant North Carolina statutes, rules, and procedures. Make informed decisions that support effective problem resolution and demonstrate technical competence with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, TeamMate, and ACL. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Management Preferences -Knowledge of group/individual life, accident and health coverage; specifically: underwriting, policyholder treatment, nonforfeiture benefits, utilization management and claims administration. -Knowledge of office productivity software such as Word, Excel and Access. Willingness to work towards FLMI curriculum or other relevant industry related study program. -Experience working with regulatory/compliance issues is desirable.
