Overview LMI is seeking an Integrating Firmware Engineer to support the development and integration of embedded firmware for next-generation mesh networking products used by Department of Defense customers. This role is ideal for an engineer looking to build experience across multiple areas of embedded systems while working alongside senior firmware, RF, and cybersecurity engineers. The Integrating Firmware Engineer will help implement firmware changes supporting the Nordic nRF54L Series platform, assist with hardware integration, contribute to rapid GNSS location capabilities, and support the team’s continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) environment. U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a Secret security clearance. An active Secret clearance is preferred. Responsibilities Responsibilities Develop and modify embedded firmware for the Nordic nRF54L Series platform. Implement firmware updates required to support new hardware features, including GPIO and peripheral configuration changes. Assist in integrating rapid GNSS location determination capabilities into embedded products. Support the RF Firmware Engineer and Cryptography Firmware Engineer with firmware integration, testing, and validation. Participate in hardware bring-up, debugging, and prototype testing activities. Assist with development and maintenance of the team’s CI/CD pipeline for embedded firmware builds and testing. Perform firmware integration testing and support issue resolution across hardware and software components. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, systems, and cybersecurity engineers throughout the development lifecycle. Document firmware changes, testing procedures, and integration activities. Participate in design reviews and technical discussions while building knowledge of embedded system architecture. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field. 0–2 years of experience in embedded software or firmware development (internships and co-op experience welcomed). Experience programming in C/C++ . Basic understanding of embedded microcontrollers and hardware interfaces such as GPIO, SPI, UART, and I2C. Familiarity with embedded debugging tools and development environments. Basic understanding of version control systems such as Git. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn quickly and work effectively within a collaborative engineering team. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Nordic Semiconductor microcontrollers or similar ARM Cortex-M platforms. Familiarity with RTOS-based embedded development. Exposure to GNSS technologies or wireless communication systems. Familiarity with automated build systems, CI/CD tools, or DevOps concepts. Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar automation tools. Internship or academic project experience involving embedded systems or IoT devices. Active Secret security clearance. Travel Approximately 10–15% travel for engineering collaboration, hardware integration, customer support, and field testing as required.
