This is an opportunity to play a visible role at the heart of AFME’s policy work during an important period for UK and European financial services regulation. The Director will lead AFME’s work on UK prudential policy coordination, recovery and resolution, and NBFI-related policy, working closely with member firms, regulators, policymakers and colleagues across AFME to shape practical, evidence- based policy outcomes. This role is a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. Key Responsibilities Leading policy formation Leading AFME’s workstreams on recovery and resolution and NBFI-related policy, helping members navigate a fast-moving regulatory agenda Coordinating AFME’s UK prudential policy work and helping develop clear, credible positions on behalf of members Monitoring, analysing and explaining regulatory developments at international, European and national level Reviewing current and forthcoming regulation and identifying opportunities for constructive engagement Working with member firms to keep them abreast of developments and to formulate policy responses and advocacy objectives Planning and chairing committee and working group meetings with member firms, creating space for effective discussion and clear outcomes Preparing responses to consultation papers and producing high-quality internal and external materials, including briefings, submissions and policy papers Building trusted working relationships with senior representatives from member firms and translating technical input into advocacy materials Contributing to cross-cutting AFME initiatives and collaborating with colleagues across policy, advocacy and communications teams Responding to member and stakeholder enquiries in a timely, practical and member-focused way Engaging with colleagues, member firms, regulators and external parties in pursuit of advocacy objectives Working collaboratively with AFME’s technical, communications and advocacy teams, as well as other trade associations and external stakeholders Developing constructive relationships with key regulatory and policy interlocutors Supporting meetings, conferences and events that help inform debate and showcase AFME’s expertise Ensuring policy and advocacy work is joined up, impactful and aligned with AFME’s wider priorities Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential: Relevant experience in financial services regulation, public policy, prudential policy, financial markets or a closely related field A strong interest in how regulation and policy shape financial markets, with the ability to get to grips with complex issues quickly Strong analytical judgement and intellectual curiosity; a relevant academic or professional background would be helpful Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to different audiences Strong interpersonal skills and confidence building relationships with a broad range of senior stakeholders Excellent drafting skills, including the ability to produce high-quality submissions, briefings and materials for senior internal and external audiences Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver across several workstreams A collaborative, proactive approach and the ability to work effectively in a small, expert team Desirable: Experience of recovery and resolution planning and/or policy Experience of policy development in the official sector, a trade association, financial institution, consultancy, law firm or professional services environment Knowledge of insolvency law, bank resolution, prudential regulation or financial markets regulation Understanding of UK, EU or international policymaking and legislative processes Knowledge of another European language would be welcome but is not essential Benefits 27 days Annual Holiday Allowance Additional 1 day Birthday Holiday Additional 3 days Christmas Holiday Private Medical Insurance Health Cash Plan Dental Insurance Employee Assistance Programme Pension Scheme – AFME contributes 10% of an employee’s basic salary Life Assurance of 4x base salary Income Protection Insurance Worldwide Business and Leisure Travel Insurance 4pm Friday Finish Hybrid working 3x office days and flexi-start/finish times
