We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our team on a full-time, 12-month maternity cover basis, starting mid-November 2026. You will provide support across two of our business units - Signature Rail and Imperial Civil Enforcement Solutions. Signature Rail is a software business unit within the Modaxo family, specialising in timetable planning solutions in the rail industry. Imperial is one of the UK’s largest and most experienced providers of parking, environmental and traffic management systems.

Role summary and responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager, you will provide support to employees in all matters relating to HR, providing guidance and advice in line with current employment legislation. You will be the main HR contact, supporting across two business units, with a dotted reporting line into the Group HR Manager, who will provide you with guidance and support.
Your time will typically be split between the two business units: 3 days per week on Signature Rail and 2 days per week on Imperial. You will work closely with HR partners from different business units, meaning you will always have support available.
You will be required to support BU leaders and line managers in all matters relating to the employee lifecycle. This includes: -
- Recruitment -In collaboration with the Talent Attraction team, ensuring job descriptions are generated that align with business requirements and alongside this, participating in interview processes as required by the Business Unit/s.
- Onboarding - Management of the onboarding cycle, including the creation of offer letters and contracts, ensuring all pre-employment checks are completed; liaison with line managers to ensure all onboarding requirements are anticipated and creation of role-specific induction programmes that support the integration of a new hire into the Business Unit/s.
- Talent and Performance Management - Oversight of the talent management programme for both business units, ensuring the process is handled robustly with any follow up actions addressed in partnership with relevant managers.
- Employee Relations - Ensuring the provision of advice in relation to all ER cases within the Business Unit/s, arranging and supporting investigations and conducting disciplinary and grievance hearings in line with Company policies and procedures.
- Legislative knowledge and application - Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and ensuring management teams are appropriately updated on any new employment legislation that has implications for the Business Unit/s and its employees.
- Contractual Matters - Ensuring that all matters relating to contracts of employment and other contractual obligations are addressed in line with Business and UK legislative requirements.
- HR Record Keeping - Maintaining adherence of GDPR standards in relation to all records contained in HR files and within Workday.
- Absence management - Ensuring that employee absenteeism is managed in accordance with the Business Unit/s’s policies and procedures and relevant stakeholders are kept abreast of key developments.
- Company Benefits - Maintain all benefit policies for both business units, adding new starters and lapsed leavers, checking invoices before forwarding for internal financial approvals, managing renewal process and claims with benefit providers and also general necessary data for annual travel insurance renewals.
- Payroll - Management of payroll instructions and conducting monthly checks on payroll data to ensure accuracy.
- General Policy Updates - Ensuring policies are reviewed regularly and updated as required in line with legislative changes and communicated to management and employees as well as addressing any queries and relevant paperwork is produced.
- Team Development - support the development of staff, ensuring Personal Development Plans are in place where appropriate, and manage the internal training platform to ensure any training resources and tools developed are curated.
- Succession Planning - In conjunction with the relevant leader, oversee the management of succession planning across the Business Unit/s, ensuring all critical roles have successors in place or plans to mitigate any gaps
- AI Adoption - Utilise AI to drive efficiencies within own role and support AI training and skills development across all functions.
- Audit Requirements - Assist with internal and external audits, providing accurate HR data and documentation as required.
- HR Reporting - Generate HR activity reports on recruitment, retention and key trends within the Business Unit/s and use these to anticipate business needs.
- Engagement - Support the bi - annual engagement survey process, regularly facilitate pulse interviews and ensure that business action plans are agreed and acted upon.
- Ad Hoc Projects and Office Admin - collaborate with the Business Unit/s leader, BU Leads, Group HR Director and other HR team members on ad hoc project work and manage any general office admin requirements that may arise.

Whilst the role is predominantly remote, you may be required to travel to our York office on occasion, to assist with on-site business activity.

Key skills and experience
- Degree or BTEC Diploma qualification desirable.
- CIPD Level 5 desirable.
- Previous experience within a HR Specialist/Advisor role.
- Experience using Workday or similar HRIS.
- Essential working knowledge and application of employment legislation and HR procedures and policies.
- Ability to juggle the responsibilities of contributing to specialist projects alongside navigating day to day responsibilities.
- Experience of corresponding and communicating with employees, management and senior stakeholders.
- Proven experience at working within a high paced, constantly changing environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills, comfortable interacting and motivating personnel at all levels of the organisation.
- Willing to occasionally travel both domestically and internationally, e.g. to attend collaborative business events.
