International Officer (North America)


Acumen (Part of Sannam S4 Group) is seeking an International Officer (North America) to provide recruitment and brand building support to Edinburgh Napier University. Preferred applicants will have experience in student recruitment, as well as knowledge of both US and UK higher education systems. This is a remote role that will require travel to recruitment events in the United States and Canada and occasional international travel, including to the UK to work with university colleagues.


Salary: $62,000 - $66,000

Benefits include: Healthcare, vision, dental, access to contribute to a 401k and/or Roth.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education & Right to Work: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and valid US work authorization (no visa sponsorship provided). A valid US driver's license is required.
  • Sector Expertise: At least 2 years of recent experience in the education sector in international recruitment, USA college admissions, guidance counseling, or study abroad advising, with knowledge of UK Higher Education systems including admissions processes and criteria. Experience in graduate student recruitment is preferred.
  • Recruitment & Business Development: Experience working with recruitment or business development targets, with the ability to interpret data and contribute to market intelligence reporting. Experience in graduate recruitment with with some university networks is an asset.
  • Systems & Communication: Proficient with MS Office, CRM, and student management systems, paired with strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Logistics & Work Ethic: Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and resilient under pressure. Must be willing to work flexible hours (evenings/weekends) and undertake extensive international/regional travel (typically 15-18 weeks per year).
  • Teamwork & Mindset: Highly motivated, enthusiastic, empathetic, and customer-oriented, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a dynamic team.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Higher Education, Business, International Relations).
  • Personal experience of study abroad (short-term or full degree) and a deep understanding of cultural issues affecting international students.
  • Active networks across the US education sector, preferably within public and private university systems. In-depth knowledge of US graduate recruitment and admissions strategy.


Overview of the International Officer (North America)

Responsible for supporting the implementation of Edinburgh Napier University’s recruitment strategy and activity plan for North America to deliver stretch growth targets. Working collaboratively within the North America team, the post holder will act as a key point of contact for students, parents and recruitment partners to deliver annual enrolment targets. The post holder will be based in the USA and contribute to the ongoing development of strategy for the region across postgraduate recruitment.

This position requires regular travel across North America. Additional international travel may be required on a less frequent basis.

This role reports to Acumen’s Partner Success Manager, North America.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities

The International Officer (North America) is responsible for:

  1. Target Delivery & Reporting: Drive annual international recruitment targets across North America, with a primary focus on postgraduate taught (PGT) pipelines, alongside study abroad. Provide regular progress reports to the university and Acumen.
  2. Market Representation & Lead Generation: Represent Edinburgh Napier University at college and university campuses, education fairs, conferences, and partner events to generate qualified leads, build brand presence, and build the University's postgraduate pipeline across North America.
  3. Stakeholder & Network Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including university admissions teams, high schools, colleges, funding bodies, alumni, and the British Council. Work effectively with Edinburgh Napier's Scotland-based regional team and internal professional services.
  4. Partnership Management: Support existing institutional partnerships, study abroad configurations, and support articulation agreement development by identifying new business development opportunities with support from the campus based team across the graduate recruitment landscape.
  5. Student Journey Support: Provide personalized counselling support to prospective graduate students and their supporters from initial inquiry through application, conversion, and enrollment. Co-develop conversion interventions and assist with short-term study abroad applications.
  6. Campaigns & On-Campus Events: Feed regional market intelligence into print and digital campaign development. Support the delivery of on-campus experiences including FAM trips, senior leadership visits from Edinburgh Napier, and partner events across the region.

About Edinburgh Napier University

Edinburgh Napier University’s International Recruitment team is based within the International Operations and Student Recruitment professional services directorate. The directorate supports the delivery of the wider University and Internationalisation Strategies, delivering effective and responsive recruitment, admission and administration services to support the student journey both in Edinburgh and in conjunction with partners around the world.


The International Recruitment Team has core responsibility for the promotion of the University overseas and the delivery of the international recruitment strategy. The team works closely with Academic Schools to drive recruitment from identified target markets into key programmes and subject areas across all levels of study.


The post holder will represent the University in North America, working alongside the Edinburgh-based regional team, to develop and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders important to the recruitment process, including enquirers, applicants, parents, counsellors, partner institutions, high schools and government agencies. A significant amount of domestic and occasional overseas travel is required alongside a flexible and proactive approach.
