Description Wellabe is looking for an Investment Accountant 1 to join our team. The Investment Accountant 1 is responsible for performing a variety of routine investment accounting duties and the day-to-day cash management of the organization. Core Responsibilities Perform routine investment accounting activities and day-to-day cash management following established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring investment activity and cash is being reported correctly, monitoring internal and external daily cash positions for multiple companies to ensure adequate liquidity to cover cash commitments (mortgage loans, investments, large upcoming movements, etc.), resolving issues related to the banking portal (fake checks, check voided in the past, etc.), and other related duties. Complete routine daily and monthly accounting including reconciling investment accounting and banking balances to general ledger and preparing related journal entries while adhering to daily and month-end cut off schedules. Investigate, research and resolve issues/problems such as rejected transactions, correcting journal entries and other related items. Perform basic and assist with complex regulatory reporting for investments, including NAIC annual and quarterly statements and related analysis, ensuring completeness, accuracy and the timely delivery of completed results. Assist in the management of day-to-day external third-party investment accounting and banking relationship. Identify, participate and assist in developing and driving changes of procedures, controls, and other process improvements. Assists in the coordination and completion of assigned tasks for external auditor requests, internal audit requests, and state insurance department examinations. Collaborate with internal teams and external providers to identify, participate and assist in projects for automating routine investment accounting and banking functions, optimizing systems and other related projects and duties. Qualifications General knowledge of the principles, processes, and practices related to accounting and finance. Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and moderate knowledge of Excel and investment software (Clearwater analytics, a plus). Moderate proficiency in interpersonal, communication, verbal, written and customer service skills. General analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills Ability to ensure compliance with internal control procedures and maintenance of evidence of controls. Attention to detail with the ability to manage time and set priorities. Ability to access, utilize, and appropriately disclose individually identifiable information to perform specific functions of the position in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and as required by law. Internship or prior experience, a plus. Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. Combination of education and/or relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Progression towards and/or interest in pursuing a CPA, MBA, or CFA, a plus.
