UNICEF Nigeria is recruiting three national consultants to translate its Adolescent Girls Storybook and related multimedia content from English into Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. The storybook was co-created with adolescent girls across Nigeria to amplify their experiences, aspirations and recommendations while promoting gender equality and positive social norms. This one-month remote consultancy allows experienced language professionals to contribute directly to content that strengthens girls’ confidence, voice and aspirations. Selected consultants will help ensure that UNICEF’s messages are culturally accurate, age-appropriate and accessible to more communities across Nigeria.

What You'll Do

• Translate the complete adolescent girls’ storybook from English into Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo.
• Preserve the original meaning, emotional tone, storytelling style and child-rights messaging.
• Adapt idioms and expressions where direct translation would be unclear or culturally inappropriate.
• Develop a glossary for recurring terms, names and UNICEF terminology.
• Edit, proofread and quality-check translated materials before submission.
• Review the final designed version to confirm language accuracy, readability and formatting.

Who Should Apply

• You hold a bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Nigerian Languages, English, Communication, Literature, Education, Development Studies, Gender Studies or a related field.
• You have at least 5 years of professional experience in translation, localisation, editing or multilingual publishing.
• You have proven experience translating educational, adolescent, child-focused or social-development materials.
• You are fluent in English and have native or near-native proficiency in Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo.
• You understand Nigerian cultural and linguistic contexts.
• You have strong editing, proofreading, terminology-management and quality-assurance skills.
