What you’ll do: CSP is seeking a Journal Development Specialist to join our Editorial team, reporting to the Editorial Director with no direct reports. The Journal Development Specialist is responsible for contributing to the growth and development of CSP’s journal program, developing and implementing strategies and action plans to grow the number of high-quality submissions for the specified journals and to drive usage of the journals’ content. This work involves extensive collaboration with Editors, academics, societies, colleagues, and other stakeholders to achieve the journals’ objectives and KPIs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Identifies and fosters strong relationships with Editors, board members, key researchers, research groups, societies, and institutions; engages with them to keep up with emerging research areas; and uses this information to proactively suggest topics and themes for new or current journals Assists in the development and implementation of strategies and plans to maintain or improve the submissions/revenue/quality/usage of the journal(s) and deliver on journal KPIs Analyses current journal content toidentifytrends and patterns (e.g., highly cited authors or subjects) Commissions content using a variety of tactics Works with editors to develop collections Works with the marketing and communications team to ensure the journals and journal initiatives are promoted through all relevant avenues. Responsible formaintainingthe journal social media feed(s) for their assigned journals, with support, asrequired, from the marketing and communications team Develops and executes strategies in collaboration with the Editorial Engagement Coordinator to identify, vet, recruit and onboard editors and editorial board members. What you'll bring: Honours bachelor's degree in science or engineering OR a bachelor's degree and significant experience in scholarly publishing. Completion of a graduate degree would be considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to conduct research, summarize findings, make evidence-based recommendations, and develop action plans. Highly adaptable and results-focused professional. A keen interest in scientific research andopen accesspublishing Knowledge of the publishing process and related matters Excellent influencing and communication skills Excellent organization and administrative skills Strong attention to detail/high accuracy Proven ability to meet deadlines consistently Highly developed analytical skills Takes ownership to complete tasks A positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to problem-solving with colleagues at all levels and departments.
