Junior Data Developer

Detroit Data Company
Posted 8 hours ago
🌍Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria🏠Remote💰$540.0–$720.0/mo📁Data & Analytics
Is this job info correct?

About the role

Detroit Data Company is a US-based data and analytics consultancy working with private-equity-backed and growing companies.

We are hiring a Junior Developer to join our data team for approximately 20 hours per week. You will work on real client projects involving data pipelines, SQL and Python transformations, dashboards, reporting, and data-quality issues.

You will work directly with Senior Engineers and the company's founder. The role is intended for someone early in their career who wants to become a capable data developer, take responsibility for larger pieces of work, and eventually communicate directly with clients.

The work is primarily Data Engineering, Analytics, and Business Intelligence.

What we look for

We are open to fresh graduates, final-year students, self-taught developers, and people with limited professional experience.

We are mainly looking for someone who:

  • Works consistently and follows through on commitments
  • Learns unfamiliar tools and concepts quickly
  • Can break down problems and investigate them independently
  • Notices when data or results do not make sense
  • Communicates clearly in English
  • Asks useful questions rather than guessing
  • Takes feedback well and improves quickly
  • Is interested in understanding the business problem, not only completing the technical task

Experience with a particular cloud platform or BI tool is not important. We are more interested in whether you have the fundamentals to learn new systems and the judgment to use them well.

Required technical skills

SQL - You should be comfortable with:

  • Joins
  • Aggregations
  • Subqueries and CTEs
  • Window functions
  • Table relationships and cardinality
  • Reasoning about the grain of a dataset
  • Investigating duplicate, missing, or incorrect results

Python - You should have experience using Python for data work, including:

  • Reading and transforming structured data
  • Working with pandas or similar libraries
  • Writing code that another developer can understand
  • Debugging your own work

Data fundamentals - You should understand:

  • Relational databases
  • Primary and foreign keys
  • One-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many relationships
  • Basic data modeling
  • The difference between transactional and analytical data

Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Domo, Power BI, Tableau, orchestration tools, or Git is helpful but not required.

Projects completed through university, freelance work, personal study, or open-source contributions are all relevant.

Role details

  • Type: Paid, part-time
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Location: Remote within Pakistan
  • Schedule: Work must take place between approximately 8:00AM and 1:00PM US Eastern Time. This is generally 5:00-10:00PM or 6:00-11:00PM in Pakistan, depending on US daylight saving time.
  • Days: Ideally M-F. Exact working days will be agreed upon with the selected candidate.
  • Part-time compensation: approx. USD 540.00 - USD 720.00 per month, depending on skills and availability

This role is expected to lead to a full-time offer if the working relationship is successful and the candidate performs well.
