This position is an opportunity for a junior professional to work on high stakes financial analysis within a remote team. You will support a project where our client manages a major healthcare distribution network by ensuring the data driving their commercial assumptions is accurate and reliable.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role The Junior Data Quality Analyst works directly with our senior principals to verify the integrity of the data used in our advisory work. Because we are a fully remote firm, you will manage your own schedule and tasks while staying in close contact via video calls and shared documentation. You will not just be cleaning spreadsheets: you will be looking for the logic behind the numbers. When a client presents a dataset about their market share or pricing margins, your job is to find the inconsistencies that others might overlook. This role is about precision and the willingness to ask why a number looks the way it does. You will be expected to maintain a high standard of accuracy while working through large volumes of information.
What You Will Be Doing
Reviewing large datasets for inconsistencies, missing entries, or logical errors that could skew financial models.
Assisting in the construction of financial models by sourcing and validating historical performance data.
Documenting the methods used to clean and verify data to ensure all analysis is repeatable and transparent.
Testing the sensitivity of growth assumptions by adjusting variables within Excel workbooks.
Comparing internal client data against external market benchmarks to identify outliers.
Preparing summaries of data discrepancies for senior consultants to review before client meetings.
Supporting the audit of acquisition models to ensure that the underlying data supports the proposed purchase price.
Monitoring data feeds from client systems to ensure ongoing accuracy during the execution phase of a project.
Organizing complex data structures to make them accessible for senior decision makers.
What You Bring
An undergraduate degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related field with a focus on quantitative analysis.
A high level of comfort using Microsoft Excel, including familiarity with formulas and data organization.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot patterns or errors in large blocks of information.
A skeptical mindset that prefers evidence and raw data over high level summaries.
The ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining clear and frequent communication.
Basic familiarity with financial statements like the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
A structured approach to problem solving and the patience to work through complex data problems.
Good written communication skills for explaining findings to the rest of the internal team.
What We Offer
A fully remote working environment that provides flexibility in how you manage your daily tasks.
Direct access to senior principals who have extensive experience in high stakes financial advisory.
A permanent, full time role with a competitive salary that reflects the value of precise analytical work.
Exposure to a wide variety of industries including healthcare, software, and manufacturing.
A culture that values technical skill and intellectual honesty over corporate politics or hierarchy.
Professional development through hands on work with complex, real world financial cases.
The opportunity to see the results of your work through the execution phase of our client projects.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that the best decisions are made when the data is interrogated without bias. We do not value long hours for their own sake, but we do value the rigour required to get the numbers right. As a junior member of the team, you will be expected to contribute your observations and findings directly, helping us provide the clarity our clients need to move forward. The work is often quiet and detailed, but it is the foundation upon which multi million dollar decisions are built.
